View Full Version : Should prostitution be legalized or decriminalized?

Of course the usual caveats apply:
-Everyone involved is their by their own free will. I know this can be subjective but I'm talking people who trick because they want to regardless of reason (could be to pay the mortgage or to buy smack) and not those who are forced or kept in the trade against their will.
-Everyone involved is above the age of consent.
-There's sufficient testing, harm reduction programs, education, etc. for anyone wanting it.
-Nothing is transacted in residential areas.

The reason for my question being posed as legalized or decriminalized is that in Canada prostitution in and of itself isn't illegal. Most of the peripheral activities like pimping, procuring, etc. are against the law and if someone gets busted thats why.

Thoughts or comments?

absolutely yes. Regulate it, mandate drs appts like vegas does, and tax that shit and help this country pay for the shit its using.

Absolutely yes. you will never stop this type of shit, so you might as well get in on the rackets

If a prostitute is registered with the state, the remains are a hell of alot easier to identify.

Just throwin' that out there.:innocent:

One of the many things that infuriates me when I watch Cops, and there are plenty, is when they have a sting for johns by placing some disgusting haggard undercover on a corner in her short shorts.

I think there are probably people who are morally outraged by the whole idea of prostitution. I am certainly not one of them, but even I don't want to see some disgusting whore set up shop across from the gas station.

So in order to catch a few harmless law breakers, the fucking cops are willing to inject into the community exactly what the citizens don't want to see -- street walkers.

Was it RI where they discovered brothels were still legal? I assume they've "fixed" that oversight by now??

Last I heard they are still legal in RI.

My point of view is simple and I know a good number of people here know that I spent a good part of the first decade running a service, made really good money, if they made it legal tax it and make sure everyone gets a license this helps lower the std rate and to also tax the shit out of it and put it back to the community. if it was to be legal here i would so go back into running an agency, It was a stressful job day in and day out and there are worse crimes out there to deal with then this.

No. It is immoral. This country was founded on christian principles that oppose sex; paid for or not.

At one time this country also held onto the Colonial and Puritan belief of the virtue of industry and the sin of idleness, to the point that serious attempts (laws) were made to prevent idleness among children, leading to the exploitation of child labor.

My point?

Times change and sometimes we have to change with it for the better.

It strikes me that pretty much all the problems of prostitution are caused by the fact that it's illegal. Why is it that they end up in the hands of pimps who beat the shit out of them? Because they can't go work in a legal place where labor laws apply.

You can have a debate on whether the work itself is degrading to the women, and harmful long term, but at least it becomes far less dangerous work if it's legal.

Your first statement is really brilliant. We have needlessy created an illegal industry.

And you used to burn "witches" at the stake so ya, going with all founding principles is a great plan.

What do I care if other people want to pay for sex?

Sure, legalize it along with drugs.

I just could not give a shit less what other people do with their lives, I am worrying about my own. I have A LOT to do, as long as I don't get bothered by it, knock yourself the fuck out.

Yes. Similar to the hypocrisy of having booze legal and pot illegal, saying that someone can get paid to have sex just because a company will make money off of the video of it seems silly if it's illegal when the porn industry is not involved.

It should be like ordering a pizza to your house.

I would probably be willing to pay for it if I did not have the fear that I would be busted. One time I saw a gaunt woman hitch hikingh and I gave her a ride and during the ride she revealed that she is a prostitute of sorts. But she made me very uneasy and I couldn't want to get her out of my car. Yes, I did spray the seat with Lysol.

Pros
- Lower STD's from mandatory tests from prostitution companies
- Tax money going back into the state
- Less hookers on the streets
- Say goodbye to most pimps as they would be rendered useless
- Lower crime rate
- No fear of getting busted for johns
- Safer work environment for prostitutes

Cons
-...um...people consider it morally wrong?

Its amazing that common sense and logic still cannot overcome hundreds of years of outdated prudish traditions. Its sickening.

I suspect that the people who will most strongly object to it would be the average wife who would suspect that her husband was paying for it on the side. Rare will be the guy who has an issue with it. Like I said, the main reason I do not go seek out a hooker now is because of fear of being busted or catching something etc.

I'd say it's the same ones who want a Palin Romney 2012 ticket‎.
The same ones who voted in Bush, especially the second time.
Unfortunately they make up most of our nation.
