It's today! Did you go? What'd you get?
I lined up at Other Music (NYC) at 9am for an 11am opening. Line was around the block by 10 and it was still backed way up at Noon.
I was able to pick up:
Pavement - Quarantine the Past (Alt-art and Alt-track listing)
MGMT - 12" Single w/B-side etching
Fela Kuti and His Africa 70 - Live '69
Beastie Boys - Mystery 12" (Blank cover/Blank Label - What's on here??)
The Fall - Bury/2+4! 7"
Dum Dum Girls/Male Bonding - Split 7"
Happy Birthday - Shampoo/Alien 7"
All vinyl is released for one day only in very limited quantities, usually a max pressing of 3000 nationwide, with some pressing being as few as 300 nationwide.
Did you go??

I gave up on the indy store that I spent so much money on in my youth. Now I do all my shopping at eMusic. I sold out, maaaaaaan.

Why would I want vinyl anymore? I don't even own a record player.
I'll support artists by buying their stuff, but vinyl blows.

Record store day is not just vinyl.
I honestly thought it was because every mention about this day was accompanied by some asshole ranting about vinyl.

I went to a record store today, but didn't buy anything. I don't have a record player though I'm looking into getting one. Just for the hell of it, more than anything else.

Same here. I was considering driving to Atlanta for it, but I wound up fixing my lawnmower yesterday instead.

Actually I'll bet a stagecoach store was fun.
By record store I don't mean a store that just sells vinyl records, but a corporeal retail outlet that primarily sells music. I miss that option when I'm bored and want to get out of the house. Flipping through a bunch of CDs, picking something up you never heard of because it looked interesting, swinging by on Tuesday because you were waiting for something to come out and taking the long way home so you didn't have to turn it off.

Times simply change! I think we should embrace progress! So much more music is available now to us than ever before!

I was using the internet to find new music while I was still a very frequent record store visitor. The internet wouldn't be harmed by the proliferation of record stores, but the opposite probably isn't true. It is hard to say which is more valuable, the record store experience or the ability for anybody to digitally distribute themselves. For me it depends on the day you're asking me. I never had a problem getting exposed to new bands, though, so my experience could be much different than some peoples.
