I love the fact that all the Marvel stories are becoming movies, however it disappoints me how they just mash up everything together like they did in the spider man and X-Men movies.

Thor is a Norse God. Son of Odin. Basically the Norwegians version of Hercules.

He's actually THE Thor? So they're mixing gods and mortals? Clash of the Titans like? I know nothing of the comic, but I'd imagine a god would be more powerful than any mortal superhero.

I still like the original rumor of Triple H, assuming he's got any real acting chops. He did well enough in his very limited role in Blade III and he's definitely got the look for it.

It's fucking bizarre that his name is "Triple H" now.

Hunter Hearst Helmsey
Abbreviated in print to HHH
Abbreviated in speech to triple aitch
Re-lengthened in print to Triple H
Then occasionally shortened to Trips
All while still occasionally being called Hunter

Yup.

Hes pretty much a bad ass. The only one that usually matches his power is The Hulk. Problem is his main enemies are other Gods. Mainly Loki.

WWE Films will release a movie called "tHHHor" which features a god-like Triple H in a Viking helmet with a sledgehammer, passing down judgment and wishes for 'future endeavors' to common folk (which will be played by Smackdown jobbers).

Then a guy in an iron suit should be mostly inconsequential to a god. I don't know, I guess I'll wait to see how the movie turns out. If anything, I'm sure it'll be better than the Titans piece of crap remake.

Thor the god has been a Marvel character, fighting with and against mortals, since 1963. Over time, they had some weaknesses to make him less powerful. For instance, the most often used one was that Odin sent him to earth to make him learn humility. To do so, he "imprisoned" Thor in the form of a mortal with a limp. The mortal had a walking stick that if slammed to the ground would turn the mortal into Thor and the stick into Mjolnir. If he was separated from his hammer for more than 60 seconds, he'd turn back into a mortal.

Also, while he was a god, and his powers were far above mortal man, they weren't so much more than other superheros such that fights would be too easy.

I read the comics, and I've been looking forward to the avengers since the first Iron Man. It's the visual aspects that bother me more than anything else. I HATE how Anthony Hopkins looks with the goofy golden eye patch. Honestly, aside from Thor's costume, I think all the Asgardians look just silly. Their armor looks plastic and cartoony. To me they look like villains from Power Rangers. Also, whether they could pull it off right or not, seeing Loki without the horns drives me nuts. When I think of Loki, the horns are the first thing that pops into my mind. I want to like this movie, I really do, but they aesthetics of it look silly as shit to me. They'd have been better off going with a more traditional Norse look rather than the cheesy look they are going for. The guy playing Thor looks the part and all the scenes outside of Asgard look great.

On a side note, I like how the Thor costume leans more towards the Marvel 616 version than the Ultimate version. I was kind of wondering where they were going to go with that, they seem to like to pick parts of the Ultimate universe to sprinkle into the movies.

The costumes are apt for the 21th Century. Shabby clothing from the dark ages could make the film look out-of-date.

As you can see above, Loki's helmet has the horns.

I disagree, they are a corny attempt to look apt for the 21st Century. I understand what they are going for, I'm just saying I don't think they pulled it off well. If you guys disagree, more power to you. It's all a matter of preference and I don't hold it against you. I just personally think it looks like crap and wish they would have went in a different direction. Everything else looks great.

Why would Odin need an eyepatch?

http://www.aintitcool.com/node/45758

In Norse Mythology, Odin gave his eye to drink from Mimir's Well and gain great wisdom. Most stories say he placed his eye in the well as a sacrifice and drank from it. Odin is always pictured with only one eye for this reason.

And the armored figure in the preview is The Destroyer - a "villain" from the Thor comics. It is an armored death machine created by Odin; essentially an Asgardian "nuke" for use in the most dire circumstances.
