View Full Version : When do you clean the lint screen in the dryer?

I went to do some laundry this afternoon and was a little pissed. Someone had done laundry and hadn't cleaned the lint off the lint screen. In my dryer, the lint screen is right there as you open the dryer door. (Hi Vos!) So it's not like you aren't aware of it.

My question is, what is proper dryer etiquette for most of you? Do you clean the lint screen right after the load is done or do you usually leave it until you are doing to use it again and just clean it before you turn it on with wet clothes?

Vote away.

Since I am generally the one doing the laundry, I leave it for the next load. Nobody to offend except myself.

After every time.
I'm just not that thrilled with the possibility of a house fire.

Only you can prevent a house fire....

When I do winter clothes I clean it everytime. In the summer every other load. When my brother was about 7 years old my mom was using the dryer in the basment. My brother told my mom that he smelt smoke. She ran down stairs and the lint was about to burn.

I clean it before I do a load.

Are we talking laundry mat etiquette? Or your own machine at home?

Laundry mat... after every load. I hate scraping someone elses dead skin cells and shit off of the screen, so I won't do that to someone else.

At home... before the next load, while it's cool and seems to mat together a little better then.

I usually clean it when I'm done, but always check it before starting.

Yea we're talking a home machine. I can deal with the home machine lint because its family. I would skeeve the fuck out if I had to clean someone's lint at a laundomat.

After every load, since I heard that it can catch fire. *See chimneyfish's post. Plus it's just a nice thing to do. And I am nice.

Yep, after hearing the house fire thing, I've always tried to remember cleaning it out after each load. A co-worker of mine had her dryer catch fire once, and when I asked her how often she cleaned the lint out, she gave me a look like, "Why does that matter?"

Who the hell cleans it after a load? I clean it before because I'm hetero.

An "Pre-Load Cleaner" is the worst thing you can call a man.

You have an in door filter. Mine is on top of the dryer. I put the wet clothes in, close the door, then clean the lint from the last load.

"Oh, I forgot to clean the lint basket in the dryer. If someone broke into the house and did laundry, it could start a fire."

Finally, another real man who knows what to do before a load.

I forgot that not all dryers have an in door lint screen too, some have that fancy top pull one. That complicates things even more.

I empty the clothes out of the dryer then clean the screen.
