It seems that everyone in America loves this fool. I just don't get it. I find him extremely unfunny. He tries to hard and he always plays the same type of character in every movie he's in...I HATE HIM SOO MUCH...Did you see his performance in I Still Know What You Did Last Summer? Oh, what a masterpiece..that is some quality acting!!!
He ruined High Fidelity. What a great movie! then you throw in this untalented, annoying, obnoxious, unpleasant to look at oaf???? What a mistake. Ugh, I hate you Jack Black...go away!!

So please, if you like him, explain why...enlighten me

Gina I agree, I really don't find him all that funny. I mean, I have only seen him in Orange County, but he was mediocere at best in the film. I don't think he deserves as much praise as he gets, thats all.

IT'S TIME TO PLAY THE GAME-AHHH!

I think Black is hysterical, the performance in I Still Know OF COURSE was bad, it was a WHITE RASTAFARIAN. I don't hold it against him.

I liked him in High Fidelity, not much of a fan of his music.

you know normally i would go on some long rant about how its good to have opinions about things even though i think yours sucks cause jack black is the only thing that saved that horrible movie high fidelity (and the even worse movie saving silverman), and how hilarious him and kg are with the band tenacious d, but i wont :)

jack black sucks...thats like saying kevin smith is a bad director, it's just NOT POSSIBLE

I really liked High Fidelity, but I think Jack was great comic relief and kept the movie from taking itself too seriously.

Hi, Gina! Sorry but I really like Jack Black as a character actor ( as though he'd ever be a leading man!..and Shallow Hal does not count!) I thought he was great in 'High Fidelity', and gave a very unique delivery to his lines.

You know, I resisted Gina's animus toward Jack Black for a long time. I enjoyed his performance in High Fidelity and find many of Tenacious D's songs to be very humorous. BUT, I now hate him. He plays the same dirt-ball character in every movie now and was terrible on saturday night live. I think most people like him because it's cool and trendy to do so now. He can't carry any comedic load himself. He needs good writing (High Fidelity) to make him funny. SNL was a prime example of that: whereas Will Ferrall, Jimmy Fallon, or Horatio Sanz can carry a skit themselves just by the way they act, Jack Black brought down the sketches with his revolting acting.

And, I don't buy that he's a classically trained actor who can do serious roles but does these roles (and Tenacious D) as a goof. If that were true, he would have never taken the roles in I still Know What You Did Last Summer and Saving Silverman.

I agree with Gina. When you get passed the hype, he's not that funny. And, when you realise he's not that funny, he gets really annoying. Except for High Fidelity, where he was hilarious. But, that was all the writing.

I would copy and paste Dan's post... but then I would be breaking some sort of law... and it may be punishable by me being kicked off the message board and go in front of the board of directors and never get a job and shit... oh wait.. that's just if I copy a paper of somebody's and hand it in at college. Ah well.

First off....using Kevin Smith and Jack Black in the same sentence is absurd. I love Smith, I think he is an excellent director, I love everything he does, own every movie of his and he's even from my home town. I can't say enough good about the man.

Second, I never said anything about Tenacious D. Actually, I have never heard them. I was talking solely about Black's acting roles. Maybe his band is good, who knows. But I'm not going to take the time to find out.

Thanks Dan for putting my exact thought into words

that being said Dan, I think Black CAN be funny and has good comedic timing but the writing is key for everything. Ferrell, Sanz, Fallon are funny but they don't save the skits. I mean how many more times can they bring the Ferrell/girl whose name I forget couple who always talks about sex. No matter the host, the SNL episode would have sucked because the skits were just plain lame. not everyone could have played the role Black did in fidelity, it was a mix of the writing and the acting that made him so great again, and if stayed as the supporting character (he is NOT leading man material and I don't mean that as an insult) and went with quality filmmakers (Farrelies have been going downhill sinec Kingpin) he'd be a lot more appreciated.

Jack Black is good when he's in a movie that's made for him. What I mean is, it wasn't that Jack Black sucked in High Fidelity, it was just that that movie sucked in general.
Tenacious D rocks anyway...
