There's not usually a lot of interest in college baseball on here but there were a few posters last year so I figured I'd start the thread.
ESPNU is carrying the Miami regional because that's where that kid from FIU w/ the hit streak is playing.
He doubled in his 1st at bat today to extend his streak to 56 games.
They're already playing in the losers bracket but have a lead on Dartmouth so he should get at least 1 more game tomorrow.

Maybe saying that in the 2nd inning was premature.
Dartmouth, home team, is now up 12-8 going into the top of the 7th.

I'm kinda disappointed that ESPNU is staying w/ this Miami regionl even though FIU has been eliminated.
They're showing some of the west coast games later in the evening but there are other games people might wanna see that don't involve Dartmouth and Texas A&M.

I've been reduced to watching online since Friday.
TV coverage has been almost non-existent this weekend.
They had better coverage during the last few regular season weekend than during the regionals.

I think they are showing stuff on ESPN360.
I think ESPNU has carried every game of the Miami and Fullerton regionals.
Even the ticker on the bottom has sucked because I seem to see the results of a few brackets several times before I see them all once.

Of all of the 16 host schools, only Auburn, Coastal Carolina and Cal St Fullerton are in the losers bracket.
Auburn is currently putting the wood (or aluminum) to Southern Miss, but even if they win, they'd have to beat Clemson this afternoon and again tomorrow to advance.
As depleted as their pitching is right now, that would be a challenge to say the least.
They led the SEC in most offensive catagories during the regular season, but the SEC tournament and the first three games this weekend has showed that they won't be able to continue to out-score teams at this level to win.
The other 13 host teams are all in good shape to advance.
Arizona State
Arkansas
Georgia Tech
Virginia
Oklahoma
South Carolina
Texas
TCU
Florida State
Louisville
UCLA
Miami
Florida
College of Charleston is in the driver's seat in the Coastal Carolina regional, and Minnesota is 2 - 0 out in Fullerton.

The SEC was 8-0 after the 1st round.
My LSU Tigers have to win 3 to advance and I think that's gonna be tough.
I usually have more faith in them than I do in any of the other teams I follow but they've been on borrowed time since the last game of the SEC tournament.
Pulled the championship game out against Alabama and then had some things go there way to win on Friday night.

I thought it was a telling sign of the competition in the SEC this year that #7 seed Bama and #8 seed LSU met in the championship game.
The ACC is holding their own so far with Fla State, Ga Tech, Miami and Virginia all looking good to advance.

Yeah they said it was the first time in the SEC tourney that the #7 and #8 seeds faced each other in the finals and the first time that the #8 seed won it all.
LSU really shit the bed in the conference from mid-season on.
At one point they had been swept in back to back conference series at home for the first time in like 30 years.

AU's now leading 17 - 6 over Southern Miss in the top 8th.
Time to give some starters some rest.
Didn't Brett Favre make a deal with the Southern Miss team that if they went back to the CWS that he would come back to play this year?
It would kinda make me happy if Auburn had a hand in ending his career.
JimBeam

Yeah, but do you think Favre would keep his word either way ?
They were just talking about how the SS for A&M has been hit TWICE in the face in the last few years w/ teeth having been knocked out. He had 6 root canals to fix everything.
No wonder he's wearing one of those cages on his helmet.
Still their best hitter according to his stats so I guess he's got some heart and balls.

Nah, but it's still fun to fuck with the Favre fans down here.
Favre: If Southern Miss makes College World Series, I'll rejoin Vikes (http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d8183af99&template=with-video-with-comments&confirm=true)
Auburn eliminates Southern Miss 17 - 8.

Wow, another huge upset.
St. John's eliminates Ole Miss 20 - 16.
I guess neither had any pitching left for this one.
Should be an easy wrap up for Virginia tonight.

Go Hogs! I'm at the Fayetteville, AR regional right now watching Kansas State play Washington State. My Razorbacks will play the winner of this game. We win, we move on to the AZ St. Super.

Tough loss last night. Good luck tonight.
Auburn was trailing Clemson 9 - 8 in the 9th, with two outs, two on, two strikes... and BOOM, three run jack over the monster in left, then had to hold on to win 11 - 10.
So they live to play another day today, although we'll see what's left of the pitching staff. I can't find any of these games on XM, or local radio, so I'm probably going to miss most of it tonight.
There's a total of 8 elimination games today:
Arkansas and Washington State
Auburn and Clemson
Alabama and Georgia Tech
Virginia and St. John's
Coastal Carolina and College of Charleston
Miami and Texas A&M
Vanderbilt and Louisville
Cal St Fullerton and Minnesota
Who's in?
Arizona State
Oklahoma
South Carolina
TCU
Texas
Florida State
UCLA
Florida
2 SEC shools in... 4 more still alive.

Go SEC! We should beat Washington State tonight, although I said that yesterday as well. I think the Razorbacks assumed the Cougars would be assed out after already playing a game in the southern heat they're not used to. They turned out to be damn tough all weekend. I'm hoping we're at the end of their pitching rope tonight.

the clink of an aluminum bat (not from a little leaguer or softball drunk) annoys me to no end
I will never give the NCAA CWS a shot
NEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Stanford has the worst uniforms if not in all of sports certainly college baseball ( or maybe organized baseball for that matter ).
I've had better, more modern jerseys for co-ed, corporate beer league teams.
What's even worse is they haven't even updated them since the 80's.
Maybe they'd win another title if they joined the 21st century w/ their attire.
You have to look like a champion to play as one.
Clemson's are pretty bad too.

Yeah, just as I was afraid of... AU went to the pitching cupboard last night, and it was bare.
AU gave up another 13 runs last night, and they're out. They gave up an average of almost 9 runs per game, and were still in it to the end, so I'm still proud of the way they battled.
5 SEC teams into the Super Regionals after Bama, Arkansas and Vandy rallied to win yesterday.

I haven't looked but based on the score I saw ( Miami leading 3-2 ) and the fact that I didn't see that Miami advanced I'm guessing their game with A&M was postponed yesterday.

The SEC had a legitimate chance to send 5 teams to the CWS and it looks like they'll now only get 3 at the most.

I'm loving the fact that Texas did not advance.
Every one of the analysts were picking them as the favorite to win it all.

I'm taking FSU to win.
At this time of year I usually root against them since their ineptitude is so great.
No ACC team, sans Miami which was winning before they joined the conference, has won a national title in baseball since the 50's I think ( Wake Forest ).
They've sent a lot of teams to the CWS during that time.

They have a really strong team this year, and Mike Martin is a hell of a coach. He is already a college baseball hall of famer. I want the old man to win for sentimental reasons.

I don't think any teams jump out at me that I don't want to win ( other than say FSU and Clemson for the previously stated reason ).
I guess I'm going SEC and then maybe UCLA ( for which I have no reason, LOL ).
TCU will get rolled in the 1st 2 games regardless of what they did to Texas because it's too tough to win in Omaha when you're new to it.

Last night's TCU/FSU game was one of the reasons why I love college baseball.
Nobody is ever really out of it.
TCU was down 7-2 in the 7th and threw up 9 runs to win it 11-7.
Mike Martin has now sent 14 teams to the CWS w/o winning a title.
That's why it was driving me crazy when the announcers were lauding over how great he is.
Seems like a nice enough guy and runs a good program but at some point you have to win it all.
He's one of 3 coaches w/ 1600 wins but the other 2 have at least 1 title.
Gene Stephenson from Wichita St has only won 1 but made the championship game ( it was a 1 game championship at the time ) 2 other times ( losing twice to LSU teams ).

Clemson is in the driver's seat in their bracket. They win one more game and they're in the finals. Far and away, Clemson is my favorite team (including professional sports). I would love to see them get to the championship game. They are hitting a ton right now and getting solid pitching. They seem to be hot at the right time!
Go Tigers!

They're another team that's made quite a few trips to the CWS w/o having won anything.
It'll probably end up being UCLA versus Clemson/Oklahoma/South Carolina.
I don't think TCU has enough to left to take 2 in a row from UCLA even w/ their ace going in the 1st game I think.
I think they said last night that the team that's been in the 2-0 driver's seat has won 18 of 20 championships.

Yeah, this is their 12th time there. Plus they were the overall #1 seed in 2006. However, I think that is more of a curse lately than anything else.
JimBeam
06-25-2010, 09:27 AM
Yeah I don't know when/if the last time an overall #1 seed won it all.
I wanted to look into whether or not this was the year w/ the fewest Top 8 seeds to advance to the CWS.
I think there were only 3.
They did say with South Carloina's win last night that we are assured of a 1st time champion.
