good beer selection, appreciates a return visitor, runs some sort of daily special. i like a place that has something to eat, but doesn't have to be a full menu.

i hate bars that turn into clubs at a certain point in the night or anywhere that charges at the door (unless its for the live band that night). i hate bars that attract the cast of "Jersey Shore"
I hate waiting to get into the bar....i refuse to stand on a line to walk into a place and start drinking....usually by the time you get in there its too crowded to get a beer anyway.
