watched the game on the MLB network, the kid is a monster. i really hope he stays injury free because he is a great to watch. the 100mph fastball followed by that knee bending curve, those hitters had no clue what to do. it seemed like he got stronger as he went on

Why won't the Nats? They play in a big market and a superstar like him is only going to dramatically increase revenue from merchandise and tickets and advertising. Combine that with the team being decent and Bryce Harper up in a couple years and they'll have a ton of money to spend.

Hell, the Mets will be able to outbid them if they ever can make a good baseball decision.

They also just added Bryce Harper.

Harper is taking classes at the College of Southern Nevada, where he is currently playing baseball. He received his GED in December 2009, making him eligible for the 2010 Major League Baseball Draft. [8][9]Through 62 games in his 2010 Junior College season, Harper is batting .442/.524/.986 (AVG/OBP/SLG) with 88 runs scored, 29 home runs, 89 RBIs, 18 SBs, and a 1.510 OPS.
In the Western district finals of the 2010 NJCAA (National Junior College Athletic Association) World Series, Harper went 6-for-7 with 5 RBIs and hit for the cycle. [10]. The next day, in a doubleheader, he went 2-for-5 with a three-run double in the first game, and in the second game went 6-for-6 with 4 home runs, a triple, and a double. [11]

I think I saw on ESPN that Harper set his school record in HRs this year. The former record was 12hrs, he hit 31hrs. That's fucking Babe Ruth record shit.

Zimmerman, Dunn, Storen, Zimmermann, (when he comes back) Willingham, guys like Derek Norris and (eventually) Bryce Harper make a pretty good nucleus. Plus, if they can get any value out of a guy like Wang or Marquis (if their arms don't fall off), the future will be pretty good.

Between this guy, Ovechkin/Backstrom, and John Wall, DC sports are entering a pretty interesting time. If anything else, hopefully they will save us from the local media having a collective explosion anytime one of the Redskins farts.

Amen. I'm actually surprised the Foreskins didn't sign T.O. yesterday just to remain in the news. But maybe they learned their lesson after doing the Shanahan deal on Opening Day for the Nats.

I only hope they keep being terrible every year so they become an afterthought the way everything else used to be. I think people are starting to come around to the fact that the franchise has treated their fans like shit for the last dozen or so years, which manifested itself in all the anti-Danny stuff last year. I know we'll always have the Skinzers, but at least they'll be drowned out a little bit by everything else going on that's positive.

Shit. (http://natsinsider.blogspot.com/2010/08/strasburg-has-torn-elbow-ligament.html)

An enhanced MRI of Stephen Strasburg's right arm has revealed a "significant" tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his elbow which will probably require Tommy John surgery, general manager Mike Rizzo said during a conference call this morning.

Recovery time from the ligament replacement surgery is typically 12-to-18 months, meaning Strasburg wouldn't be ready to return until late-2011 at the earliest.

It's got to be frustrating for Nats fans in the short run, but in the long run it'll still work out! It was pretty much inevitable that he'd need TJS at some point, and most pitchers now come from it back stronger than before once they're recovered! This is also extends the time that they control him, so they're not losing out on. Let him get the TJS, let him recover and miss next season while the team continues to rebuild and then plan to bring him back in 2012 when it's likely time to unleash Harper!

Really, do you guys not know what TJS is? It's practically a rite of passage nowadays!

It's kind of hopeful in a way that Jordan Zimmermann had the same surgery last year with the same prognosis, and is already back pitching (pitched last night).
