Hypodermic syringes are hidden below the surface pointing upwards to prick bomb squad experts as they hunt for devices.
The heroin needles are feared to be contaminated with hepatitis and HIV. And if the bomb goes off, the needles become deadly flying shrapnel.

It's The Sun, so it's less trust worthy than the Dave leaving R&F bit, but its still nutty.
They should retaliate by dipping ammo in pig's blood.

People would be outraged and protest that we were not being sensitive to Muslims, the media would go crazy, there would be international outrage, Obama would fire everyone. Something as sensible as what you suggested would never be allowed.
Meanwhile full support is given for HIV bombs.

How is it "sensible?" It's not like it's some magical weapon that would just make them give up! Of course, you buy hook, line and syringe into a ridiculous story from the Sun, so this isn't too surprising! I'll bet you still think you can get AIDS from a toilet seat!

Regardless of the source, never underestimate a foe's ability to do unimaginably evil things.
Lest I remind you of the Nazis, the Russian Gulags and the much less known Japanese Unit 731 of WW II from more recent history.

HIV will only survive for a couple of minutes at the very most.
HAV can live outside the body for months, depending on the environmental conditions.
HBV can survive outside the body at least seven days and still be capable of transmitting infection.
Recent studies have shown that HCV can survive outside the body and still transmit infection for 16 hours, but not longer than four days.
