Will this change FM radio, satellite radio?
Will it affect what O&A and R&F do on-air?

Why would it affect what happens on satellite radio? Any restrictions the talent have are imposed by Sirius and have everything to do with lawsuits and the PR climate.

I'd love to think this will make a difference but until the supreme court can rule that being offended doesn't entitle you to anything it just won't.

I imagine it won't change a whole lot either. The radio industry has, in recent years, become incredibly conservative with its content. This conservatism is self-imposed out of fear of losing advertiser support.

It won't change a thing.

It's not the FCC stations are really afraid of as much as it's the bad press of people doing boycotts and crap like that. Just think how satellite doesn't answer to the FCC and there are bits the Sirius/XM lawyers won't let O&A replay.

I think its hilarious that people still cower to the fear of boycotts. When are they going to realize that Americans as a whole are way too selfish to boycott anything. I dont care if they found the founder of Burger King gutting a baby seal while getting blown by an infant, if I need a cheeseburger, thats where the fuck Im going. And people can say what they want but everyone else is the same exact way.

FCC has never ruled that they cover satellite radio. Sirius is trying to self-police so that the FCC never finds the need to monitor them. As cable tv is more and more coming under the FCC restrictions, Sirius is probably trying to avoid any hearings that could change how the FCC treats them.
Also, if the FCC comes out with clear guidelines, as the court seems to want, than it will be easier for the boys and buddies to toe the line. Now, management has no idea what the FCC will get upset by, so they are overly careful, having a "chilling effect" on speech.
Maybe it will let FM return to more liberal rules, and that will give O&A or R&F a chance to return to FM and still do a good show.

I keep hearing this but as someone that watches Spartacus, Dexter, True Blood, Party Down and US of Tara....I just dont see it. I mean, I understand the free cable part, but Sirus is supposed to be treated like HBO and other pay cable stations.

The court has moved cables internet and phone offerings under similar regulation as it did landline phone and internet offerings.
I am sure FM groups lobby the government saying that satellite needs more regulation, while they also say FM needs less.
The FCC has never said cable can not have offensive material, but again, the free channels are being pro-active. I think the push/pull standard is used in many contexts. Broadcast tv is pushed into your home, as is FM/AM, so it must be regulated heavier. While, satellite and cable, you pull into your home, so the courts give it greater leeway, because you took an active step. I might be oversimplifying the rulings. I think that is also why the internet and 900 sex lines have been allowed freedom, because you are pulling them into your home, they are not being broadcast in a blanket manner like TV and radio. But, this old models are giving way, as now more people have at least basic cable, the internet is eating into the TV market, and satellite grows.

If you are in heaven and you are watching the Earth, you are in the wrong heaven. It's called land of infinite pleasures and yet the exploits of the living hold an interest. Sounds like heaven is the land of finite pleasures.

but watching news of earth could be pleasure for some.

there's a lot more pleasure here than afghanistan, but we still keep an eye on what's going on there.

The good thing about this ruling is that it protects live broadcasts. The original, idiotic, FCC ruling held that a broadcaster was subject to the same fine for unplanned, fleeting expletives as they would be for intentionally broadcasting those words. That is, if during a football game a field mic caught a player yelling "Fuck!", that would be the same as if Brian Williams went nuts and referred to someone as a "fucking cocksucker" during the NBC Nightly News (which would be awesome.)

It was a stupid rule that really could have led to the networks being afraid to air anything that isn't on a significant delay.

Now, of course, my feeling is that "indecency" rules in general are ridiculous and need to go, and if you don't want to hear people saying "fuck" on TV, well, then, turn off the fucking TV. But this rule in particular was a bad one.

They don't. They don't give a crap about us. They're either in Heaven in the presence of God, so we don't matter, or they're in Hell getting tortured, therefore we don't matter.

Either way, lighting a candle or saying a prayer to anything or anyone other then God is a waste of time.
