Wedding BAND!!!

I normally take it off before I take a shower. I was just really tired after doing some cleaning and making Marco's dinner for the next day.

I'm pretty sure it's in the U-shaped pipe. Marco said he'd try to get it.

It's a $50 ring. Should I cut my losses? The plumbing bill will be three times that much. But, it's the ring I was married with

I'm an idiot for taking a shower with it.

Sadness abounds. :help:

Not having your ring on has obviously affected your ability to keep your fingers on "home row"!

If it's still in the U shaped pipe, I'm sure Marco can get it out for you. Just turn off the water valves, and have him borrow a good wrench from someone. Make sure you get some plumbing sealing tape from a hardware store, to put on the threads, before he puts the pipe back on.

The "U-shaped pipe." Heehee, you're such a girl.

More to the point...it seems to me that if if there is even a question in your mind -- if it's something that's a loss that can be cut -- you already have your answer.

I'm guessing that if you've seen the "U-shaped pipe", that it must be pretty easy to get to.

A pair of these, and he'll be able to remove, retrieve, and re-install with no problems.

If he doesn't have one, or can't borrow one, you can pick a cheap pair up at any hardware store for a whole lot less than the cost of the ring. (Ask for a pair of "Channel-lock" pliers, or any "Tongue and Groove Pliers")

Just be aware that the "U-shaped pipe" is there to collect and hold water at all times. It will be full of water (and other nasties), and some WILL pour out when he takes it off.

If it's inside the house, slide a shallow pan under before you start to remove to collect what pours out... and make sure it's something you don't mind getting dirty.

Good luck!

This is pretty spot on. No one should need to hire a plumber to disassemble the U-shaped pipe (called a "P trap"). A lot of times, a pair of channel locks is even't necessary if the p trap is plastic. The plastic ones have locking nuts with "wings" on them that make it possible to disassemble and reassemble by hand. If you or your husband are not too familiar with these things take a digital photo before you start, and after you remove each part.

And here's a tidbit of knowledge you can share with your girlfriends. The P trap is used to trap a small portion of water that completely seals the drain pipe at all times. The purpose of this is to prevent nasty-smelling gas from entering the home from the sewer/septic system. This is the same thing that gives the bottom of the toilet that squiggly look.

no ring, no regrets.
until you get the ring out or get another, you're on the market.

Good point. I forgot to mention that you should probably run some water down the drain very soon after you have it put back together.

One - To check for leaks, and Two - To re-fill the trap so that you don't have sewer gas seeping up into your bathroom.

I just noticed that you may have washed it down the "drown" in the shower? If so, you probably wouldn't be able to open the trap without cutting through from below, which is a big project. You will have to try and hook it or magnet it from above.

I assumed that because she knew that there was a "U-shaped Pipe" below the "drown", that she could see it, and get to it fairly easily?

Me too, but rereading it, it seemed like it was in the shower.

If she can't get to it easily, and it's only a $50 ring... unless the sentimental value is worth a helluva lot more than that, it's probably best to let it go then.

There's a slight chance that a $50 ring could have ferrous metals in it, but most likely, it won't be ferromagnetic. I've heard of some gold being alloyed with nickel, but it's usually blended with silver and/or copper, which won't stick.

Does your husband have the same matching band? If so, see if a magnet will stick to it.

If it does, and you can't get to the trap easily, find yourself one of these and go fishing before you give up on it:

Most Auto Parts stores will have them... ask for a "Telescoping Magnet".

Believe it or not, I found the "unicorn" of Latin men: he's gainfully employed and has no children.

OH LUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCY!!!!

I actually make him say, "LUUUUUCY! I'm HOME" when he walks in the door. His, "Say hello to my little friend!!" just wasn't cutting it.

You know, it would just be easier to put a cow-bell around his neck, or, if you're technically inclined, a GPS ankle bracelet.
