I know this is probably still a ways off, but instead of adding this to the end of a long dead thread I figured I'd start the new one.

I just came agross this article about one of the contestants and I'm sorry, but this is just stupid.

It was one thing when Gary Hogeboom competed because unless you were a die hard football fan, you wouldn't recognize him, but why take a spot away from a "regular Joe" to put someone that almost everyone will recognize and have an instant target on their back.

Hell, just make a Celebrity Survivor if they are so desperate for ratings.

Not only is he too famous to be on Survivor, but they've been hedging their bets against injury the last few years, a 67 year old man is not going to help that. South America has been the toughest environments as well.

I see they broke the tribes into young vs old. That won't last long as the young tribe picks off the older, slower tribe.

I have to say, looking at that cast, I'm not blown away by any of the women. Every season there is at least one that to me is gorgeous or has a huge rack for me to ogle every episode. Not this time though. If there is any one that is decent to look at it's Yve Rojas, the 41 yr. old mom. Pretty sad that the hottest one is on the "old" tribe.

I hope those "alpha males" dont get voted off. I agree with what they said about not allowing girl to do what they have done in the past. So many years females have skated by and won because the men did all the dirty work or the women joined forces to get rid of the guys. Why is it so wrong for the guys to now do the same?

I was sad to see Wanda II get voted out. Nobody likes the weird kid.

I don't really get how JJ can really help the team. Of course, I've never understood how coaches can motivate anything -- I'm far too aloof for any of that Tony Robbins shit. Anyway, I guess if he can convince enough people he has some magical ability to make them do better, that's as good a strategy as any.

The high-fiving dude and the He-Man Woman Haters Club dude both seem like enormous douches.

I feel like they cast more for a season of The Real World and I'm not liking it. Everyone is getting so cartoonish. I'm worried the players are too aware of the game, and the cameras.

Flipping on Pest Control was the right move. That's your leader, and he's not smart enough to keep his shit together, dump him and try and pull a new alliance. Sash is gonna run it as long as he doesn't hitch his wagon to Nay too much, but I dont think he's that stupid. I dont know why anyone would think "I'm in tribal, I'd better just show all my cards right now," I guess thats the privelage of being an Alpha dog.

Butts make their first appearance. I got a better look at Kelly One Leg and she's cute, or atleast shes my type.

Isn't it dumb for the Brooklyn guy to try to sound like a tough old mobster because he has $1600 shoes? Aren't you just bragging that some fairy at Gucci took you for 2 G's?

Other humor included calling Fabio "dummy" to his face, and Nay being on board for all the minorities getting together, and almost in the same breath saying she hates One Leg and wants to vote her out. And its only a matter of time before Nay is gunning for the asian.

The implication is, are you gay cus thats shameful and I want to put you at a disadvantage. Then he John Rocker tagged it with whatever he said about gays in New York or whatever. Sash' response was also retarded. I actually didn't think he was gay until he started Don Jauning it after being asked if he was gay. Well, not gay, but I'm sure he's been watching some internet videos. I agree I didn't think he was half black, I thought he was Jewish.

Again we're talking implication about why or why not the minority alliance is racist. If minorities say lets have a minority alliance it doesn't come off as immediately racist because minorities have a shared experiance, only another minority understands what its like to be a minority in America. Just like we've seen bible people jump in together, its easier to trust someone you already have common ground with. Why doesn't this work for whites? Because, as the majority, that commonality is devalued. The system is set up by you, for you, so the majority experience is much less of an experience. It carries an ontology with it too, that when whites have specifically excluded minorities in the past it has been for racist reasons. This works the other way too. If 4 white people make an alliance on Survivor barely anyone is going to say They got together because they're white, if 2 black people make an alliance many many people will say They got together because they're black. It is possible that they're racist, but they haven't done anything yet to prove it. And I dont believe its a real plan, I think Sash saw a way to pull in a few girls and he took it.

My grandfather was the 1st one to come to this country in my family and he was never handed anything by the govt. He had to learn English and get a job even though no one wanted to hire him. He enlisted in the US Army and fought in world war 2 before the rest of my family came over to this country. When he came home from war, got a job and worked 60,70, 80 hours a week to support HIS own family. When he would get off the bus the real "whites" would throw rocks at the Italians and call the N, wop, grease ball etc.

So dont tell me about the white experience like every person who is considered t obe white had it easy or has it easy. The difference is we never had any help and had to fight for what they got. Instead of blaming people the Italians just did for themselves.

Many "whites" who arent racist are starting to get very tired of the blame game. Not every white has had it easy and not every white person has held others back. What you should look at it as is rich vs poor and there are plenty of poor whites out there. So dont think they have any power.

If someone is using race as a factor in their decision making, they are, by definition, practicing racism. It's pretty black and white (heh).

Now if you want to say that racism by minorities is tolerable racism, that's up to you. I don't. I think that labeling some people as "minorities" and proclaiming that they have a different set of rules they get to follow is completely contrary to the goal of eliminating racism, and should receive the same kind of scorn that the more familiar perpetrators get.

I wouldn't do that with an Irish American, or a Swedish American, because I feel as different from those groups as I do a black guy or a chinese guy. My great grandparents got off the boat and found the Italian neighborhood, to be with people they had things in common with. After high school we moved into a house next to an 80 year old Italian immigrant, who didn't talk to his neighbors, but guess who he made friends with? The nice Italian family that moved in next door, and I'd go do his chores and he'd compare tomato plants with my mom. Being Italian, especially in the early 1900s, was a minority experience. Whites have the luxury of identifying themselves by nationality, which is something most ancestors of slaves have lost, which is why they are more black than we are white. You said it yourself, you said "MY people" and you meant Italians, not whites.

I do believe that poverty is a much more significant factor than race, but we're talking about Survivor so poverty isn't really an issue. White experience means culturally, and it doesnt mean easy, or wealthy. But it is an experience that is defined much differently than the minority experience. Poor is another experience, and I'm sure people on Survivor have bonded over growing up poor. Russel liked that good looking kid because he was starting his own business, just like Russell did. so we essentially agree but not on the wording. Thats my point, everything you said about Italian neighborhoods was very true of that time. But if your neighbor had said he would only speak to you because of your color or nationality then yes it racism. But when 2 whites join forces in a tribe but never mention color I dont immediately look at it as they did so because of color more because there was something else they liked, personality or whatever. But once you make the statement "lets try make a black or minority alliance" then im out and see that as equal racism. Sash had no reason to use that as his reasoning. Thats right about whites joining up and I've said that, white people can get together and it has absolutely nothing to do with race, because white people dont relate to other white people for being white, and I assert that especially not the way a minority can relate to other minorities.

It is a weak season and it doesn't help that it's coming off of two very strong seasons. Not having anyone aged 30-40 is a real mistake to me, although I understand that they were looking to have a real divide in the ages. Last night I did say they really built a tribe that has no chance of competing, although it looks like next week there is a tribe shakeup which should make things more interesting, and will hopefully see the format jump back to two challenges per episode. I get the feeling they were combining reward and immunity because the old tribe couldn't handle that many challenges.

Only one challenge, and that one has been consistently been as watered down and bland as you can get. I like the crazy obstacle courses and the ones where you have to suplex your opponent to make sure he doesn't score a goal.

We do jump back to two challenges and the immunity challenge looked like a torture device. They almost left that one girl underwater when they completed the first stage.

The old people are idiots. You let the young people vote Tyrone off because he ate chicken when you had a chance to even up the old/young numbers and vote out Naonka. It's also completely retarded to eat one of your chickens on the day you're voting someone out. If you wait a day you have another portion of chicken to split up.

I cant believe how bad this season is. 1st when they chose new tribes, neither picked the best that they could have. It almost seemed like they were told you cant pick the 3 or 4 best. That last challenge showed how dumb Marty is. he wanted to turn that thing as fast as possible but going a little slower would allow you to spit more accurately. I thought someone was going to drown. That really wasnt the safest of challenges. I cant believe they did vote out the old Italian guy from NY or Nanoke. she wanted to quit and has an idiot, the old guy is as useless as you can be in this game. The problem is that one crazy old bitch from S Dakota. She has been nuts since day one and instantly changed sides. she thought she was being that cool mom type who is down with the kids. It was so uncomfortable to watch her talking to them.

These people are idiots. You've identified Marty as a big threat, you could've voted him out twice, and didn't pull the trigger either time. Why would anyone vote Kelly one leg over Marty in the tie breaker? They were talking about her being a jury favorite before the merge, it's retarded.

Then last night, whats the point of having Marty give up his idol only to promise to not vote him out and give it back to him if you lose the next immunity challenge? You succeed in voting out another person who will never win individual immunity that you can drop any time you have the numbers, which you will until all the old people are gone. Now they merge next week and Marty is still in the game, can regather his resources and maybe start making moves. Now maybe Sash doesn't give it back because theres no more team immunity challenges, but he didn't indicate he knew that, he just made a pointless deal.

If I was Marty I would've started talking as soon as I gave up the immunity idol to Sash, trying to flip people based on the mistrust issue that came up during tribal. Sash is a salesman, inherantly nobody likes or trusts a salesman.

Im really hating this season. There isnt anyone to really like. Even in the past villains were likable because they were funny or smart. Sash is such a lazy, worthless punk. Everyone also seems to think they're really smart and have the game locked down, but I dont think any of the alliances are that well defined. I dont see how guys like Fabio and Benry, who can be both assets and threats, dont see how obviously tight Brenda, Chase, Sash and Naonka are and dont realize that if they dont make their own moves they wont go to the final.

Team challenges are over, so Dan is no longer a huge liability, which means he can just coast and be a vote. Dan, Benry, Fabio, Marty, Kelly Purple, South Dakota, and Alina could've combined for 6 votes somehow and ousted someone from a really strong 4 that has two immunity idols.

Naonka was a ridiculous character and they commented on that with the editing. Jeff asking her if she had a shot to win and her insisting that she did, cross cutting with the jury members, the whole not bowing out of the reward, showing Dan's reaction when she said her joints hurt, showing Sash' reaction when she said she was the last proud black person etc.

I dont think you can chalk this up to the whole 'no losers' thing, because look at the young people that are still in the game, and the young people who have done really well in Survivor. I would say Parvati is the best player ever, and shes under 30. Stephanie had to go back to her camp alone, Ozzie was an idiot but a great physical player etc. I think this is the result of how cast this season seems to be, and thats really hurt them. If you're auditioning to be on Survivor from a fame standpoint you're more motivated by the money you're going to earn after you leave, so why stay? By quitting they dont get any money. After all her shit Naonka would've been a lock for the final 3, shes too dislikable. So its like someone said "I will give you up to 100k for 11 more days of discomfort" and she turned it down, thats how unmotivated by the game she is.

I really thought Kelly Two Legs would stay after all that. This might be a reason why the next season is a redemption theme, where voted out cast members have a chance to come back into the game.

I'm excited for Probst blog today, he hates quitters. I'm sure he wouldnt want them in the Jury, but I think their hands are tied. They might be obligated to have X amount of votes cast in the finale.

Why not a cold weather Survivor? For starters, no bikinis. Also, they would have to provide them so much to make it safe it wouldn't seem like Survivor. They would have warm weather clothes and shelter, plus extra food because you burn alot more calories in cold weather than in warm. Then you have your crew and setting up challenges in the snow, logistically I dont think it would be possible.

Dans son kissing him and rubbing his chest was terrible sign of affection. It one thing to love your parents/kids so much that you kiss their cheeks and hug them. But to me rubbing and touching all over is very weird. Dan also shouldnt be calling people a scumbag because he wasnt picked to go on the reward. How can he be that stupid to think he deserves any reward? He might be the worse player I have ever seen on this show and the producers should be embarrassed for putting this cast together.

Sash is gay lets not try to hide it. Nothing wrong with it but I hate when someone denies denies denies and then boom it will come out at the finale that he is. I also love how he looks like a tan white kids, used color and race in the game yet the person he is closest to is his white mother who couldnt be any whiter! Off topic, isnt it always surprising when a mixed race kids seems to side and fight for the minority side and shits on the side of the person who raised them. For example Alicia keys, Halle Berry. They both are so pro black and even seem at times to be against the whitey yet they both admit their fathers are the ones who they never had any contact with and their white mothers raised them and did everything for them? I would think they would respect the person and people who raised them and did for them. Never seems to be the case.

I didnt like what Probst did last night. He basically tried to create an alliance and kind of told them who they should vote for. He even said it multiple times and tried to convince them to vote for Holly.

The only person I can hope wins is Fabio but its sad that this game reward stupidity and not good players. I think it will be very tough for him to even make it to the finals. He will have to win every challenge.

How great would it be if Dan won? Even though he is terrible it would be a big fuck you to the show and this season!

In his blog Probst says he always tries to ask questions that the audience would ask, which is where the alliance question came from. I actually wouldn't mind it if tribal was really aggressive on Probst part, I think he's a legitimately talented host.

Also, he says the Dan thing made him tear up and that he always pushes to have the family episodes. I could do without them. Personally I hate to do without Food Auction or the gross food eating face offs. I think the gross food is pretty much gone for good though, TV doesn't like people puking anymore.

When Probst was explaining the Redemption Island part I kept thinking to myself that this sounded cool and was pissed that I would miss it because I swore I would not watch another season with that jackass Russell on it. your thoughts echo mine. I was so pissed watching the final vote. I liked Alina til she said what she said. That was stupid. This vote should not have been that close. Fabio won 3 straight and 4 overall immunity idols. Chase flipped every chance he got and was a nervous wreck. Did he even win anything but 1 reward challenge? I just watched the reunion show. That was a terrible reunion. They didnt talk to half the people and didnt let Shannon get out what he was trying to say. The girls on the show looked great. Brenda, Purple Kelly, and Alina are really hot. Holly is a pretty older women, I was a little surprised! Even Naonke looked nice and it was nice to see her back track a little.

Now for the new season. I love the idea a little. I think, depending on when the redeemed player comes back it, it may give them the overall win easily. If they come back with 4-6 spots remaining and get immunity for their first tribal council. They would have a good shot to make it to the final 3. The jury would also have to reward that person if they made it to the final 3 with the win because they had to win all those challenges on redemption island to get back in. The good thing is it gives good players a better chance to stay in the regular part of the game and if a strong players is voted out by weaker, smart players that strong player has a chance. The game wont reward people that fly under the radar anymore, at least I think it wont!

My fav player ever has been Russell. I would have loved for him to be back on but its still too soon. Hes played 2 times already within the last 4 seasons. But Im happy that Boston Rob wont be back. I never liked anything about him and think he gets way too much props!

Hopefully this new season will redeem this show. It sucked this season!

I never understood the Boston Rob obsession either. I never thought he was as great as others made him out to be. I mean in his original season he basically did nothing but make fun of some gay guy, who I may add made him look like an asshole by getting Rob voted out, and didn't even make it to the jury. exactly. he was an asshole and the only reason he made it far in all stars was he teamed up with his future wife and they both had other protecting them. It wasnt like Russell who told people what to do and how to vote. Rob just turned on his people for Amber last chance he got because he wanted to bang her.

I think it's kindof impossible for them to put out as bad of a season as last season. That was a bad cast made worse by the age gimmick.

Misc Thoughts:
Blackswell Smart is the greatest thing ever to happen to the game of Survivor.

They did not skimp on the eye candy this season. There's one ugly chick (muscle-bound ox on Team Russell), one average chick (Francesca), one busty old lesbian, then like a dozen hot coeds.

I like Rob and his little army of teenyboppers. That looks like it could be a fun dynamic, especially if it turns out one of them can scrape together enough brain cells and eventually challenge him.

It kinda sucks that the only likeable person so far got voted off. Though I'm sure they probably gave her an especially good edit just so we can root for her on RI. One episode in and you have to be a fan of Francésécois.

I'm a big Russell fan, but from the tiny amount of that tribe we saw, his inclusion seems like a mistake. The first two times, no one knew him. This time everyone knows what to expect, and it looks like people are totally going to marginalize him; probably vote him out immediately. Hopefully he'll find a way to make it work, but I'm not hopeful.
