this was the mindset i had when i went to brasil. i went there for a capoeira training/tournament. the other guys i went with wore all of their "normal clothes" like brand new jordans, lucky brand jeans, diesel clothes, etc. they caught all of the dirty stares from some of the local guys who were there for the tournament as well. i warned them that not only were they gonna get robbed, but they were gonna be targeted in the fighting circles too. boy, did they get marked. the guys literally fought through it, but it def helped to change their attitude when we went to other parts of that country.

i played it simple and didnt dress flashy. though i brought my own "fancy sneakers" i ended up wearing my havaianas the whole trip, since its the "every man's shoe" down there. it also helped that many of them thought i was brasilian (as long as i didnt speak too much, as my accent would have given me away). the girls who knew i was from new york gave me a hard time and targeted me too, but it wasnt as bad because i wasnt being "showy"
