Let's try going back to a weekly thread...

Worst-of today, no idea why.

Love Patrice and Lou in studio together. Miss the old studio and the sounds of the live audience too.

I've heard that Americans usually hate real Chinese and Mexican food cause we're so used to the Americanized versions. Patrice is wrong about Italian though, I've been there and the food ruled.

Great Show Today.

Antony with Patrice O'Neal and Joe DeRosa with Bob Kelly calling in.

Opie is still sick though.

Sometimes when Opie is out Anthony and a guest hit the perfect note. Today was not one of those. Or it's possible that the Forrest interview went on way too long and sucked the life out of the room?

It was a great show until that lunkhead with an attitude of superiority showed up. He sucks on the radio especially when no one in the studio cares about MMA. At least when Jimmy is there he gives a shit about the sport and the people involved even if it gets boring, he makes it good radio. Today was just a show stopper after a great momentum to an unearned three day weekend.
Copy past copy paste workhorse whatever.

I'm just now listening to yesterday's show. One of the things I like about Opie-free shows is that they never go to the phones. Hearing Anthony rip into how boring the callers are is pretty funny.

Exactly. He was another awful celebrity guest and his appearances were painful. Why are they so validated by these awful celebrity appearances? These guys make great radio most of the time, but it's hernia-inducing hearing the celebrity guests, and O&A&J talking about not getting certain celebrity guests is prolapse-inducing. What I've heard of tdoay's show was great. No out-of-place celebrities, just funny commentary from funny guys.

I didn't read Jim's book, who does he attack that would've stuck it to him by keeping the table of contents off of the kindle?

This was pretty silly. If there was some "suit" who didn't like Jimmy's targets in the book, wouldn't they have made it difficult to actually get the book to ebook format instead of just allowing it to happen, then removing the table of contents? I have never read the table of contents to a book that I am reading of my own volition. Omitting the table of contents is not going to hurt Jimmy in any way.

Their whining about not getting celebrity guests is so annoying. Yeah, there's nothing like hearing them put the show on hold so they can kiss ass and fake laugh with a guest. They make it so obvious that they don't really give a shit about what the guest is plugging. They just care about saying they've got someone "big" in the studio.

Opie, who worked in radio all through the 90s, loves the Seattle music scene, and is a giant Nirvana fan, has never heard a single Melvins song. I know it's a melodramatic thing to say, but perhaps an overabundance of Opies is why rock radio doesn't really exist anymore.

Jimmy knew more about them just by being a starfucker. And Opie says he'd like to hear a Melvins song one day, with no sense of irony that he could hear a Melvins song right that second if he asked.

And I guarantee he wouldn't know Mudhoney if they walked in studio.

it always strikes me as arrogant when someone expects another person to not perform his job because they don't agree with it...in most cases there is a good reason that the person does not understand (like lightning rods on personal property)...

my neighbor was encouraging his kid to continue skateboarding on the local church's property because he said it wasn't hurting anyone...I don't think the church could (or should) afford the liability associated with letting kids skateboard on their property...

I hope I don't grow up to be as all-knowing as those that know everybody's business better than they do...geesh...

That was God awful. But their music segments always are. They're just ways to phone in a show on a slow day anyway. And enough already about Led Zeppelin doing covers and then saying they "stole" them. They're widely acknowledged as being covers and the original artists were credited where due.

And holy fuck I cannot for the life of me understand his fucking obsession with Billy Corgan covering Landslide.

It's a wimpy chick song in it's original form and Corgan does it so close to the original it's not even worth doing. And thus, it's still a wimpy chick song. And stop trying to portray it as a Smashing Pumpkins version, it's just stupid Melon Head and The Infinite Baldness on his own, no matter what name it appears under.

That may be the single stupidest event to ever happen in the history of fan support of anything ever of all time. If your favorite tv show was cancelled, would you put a hammer through your television? You know who would do that? A person that is profoundly retarded. Like, diagnosed by a panel of doctors and verified by a notary public as retarded, retarded.

And when they came back on the air a few short weeks later, what did each of those morons do? They bought a new radio.

Way to show the brass at XM you mean business and you won't stand for that by buying more merchandise and reestablishing subscriptions.

Just now listening to Monday's show. I love how Opie spun his Twitter "war" with Keith Olberman, making it sound like Keith is the one desperate for attention.

I have to agree with Opie about Olberman's tweet. How are Opie, Coulter and WTC from the 90's?

It would have been a good tweet, if it was accurate.

They were all adopting the Newt Gingrich talking points "fuck the mosque - all Muslims are terrorists or terrorist sympathizers". I had to give up after a few minutes of pure ignorant inanity.

The Situation is making money by his brand because he has more talent with branding and catch phrases than Opie could ever imagine. Brother man? Really?

It's an ugly truth.

It always makes me cringe, hearing opie talk about his marketing attempts.

And yet opie has more money and isn't bringing home grenades. Yeah his catchphrases canbe pretty cringeworthy.

Over the last few weeks (months?), I've been turning on the show and almost immediately turning it off. I just turned it on and started laughing my ass off. Jimmy attacking the callers makes me laugh every time.

But Opie became almost unbearable. In 5 minutes, he's mentioned "do people listen to us only for 2 minutes" twice and "after the break" twice.

Remember when he went on that run where he kept joking about billing the company for all of his great ideas? Yikes.

The more he talks about "brilliant radio", the less brilliant it becomes. The ego is a very destructive force.

Opie is a perpetual wannabe "cool fella".

Yesterday, he was commiserating about cocaine habits.

This morning, he discussed how worried he would be answering the telephone because he assumed he had impregnated a woman.

This isn't hate, it's just uncomfortable, forced "party-line satellite" program playing pretend while I listen.

Whatever.

It's garbage. AND I turned the dial.

Oscar is right, and probably has an autistic knowledge of cars. The GT 500 doesn't really have 500 HP and doesn't go around corners well because it has the same suspension. Anthony does kindof have a hack car.

I'm sure it's pretty amazing to drive after all that souping-up, but still.

As long as it's a drag race. And you're right, my guinea ass cousin bought a mustang the second he got a job after college. I think they're chick cars though. If you had a ton of money and were really into driving I can think of a bunch of cars you'd be more likely to buy.

I've always thought those 60's "classic" mustangs were pretty effeminate.

Really dig the jokeman on O&A, It's cool to hear him tell all the old stories about working with Stern. If you listen to Stern, Howard, Fred and Robin pain Jackie as a madman. Jackie does his own show on Howard 101 and it usually sucks but a couple of weeks ago he took calls and answered questions about why he left The Howard Stern Show.

Only like the Jokeman in very small doses and couldn't give a shit about Howard. Also the MMA/UFC fells like something I should be into, but find it boring and the host sycophantic to Dana White
