Tomorrow is my last day in the office (I work at what used to be known as Merrill Lynch) when sending the obligatory goodbye email do I end it with "your mom's box"
I feel like I have to but it might be a joke thats completely misinterpreted in a quasi-professional setting.
What say you?

"And that's the end of the show, donk" would go over better.

It's funny, but you have to seriously watch burning a bridge if you have nothing else lined up right now.

Not sure that the goodbye email is obligatory. Actually, I've never read a good one.
Tomorrow, get the personal/business emails from the folks that you want to hear from again, including those from whom you'd like recommendations, and move on.
If it makes you feel better, Krylon YMB in your cube. They'll never know who did it.

i've never sent a final goodbye email and always thought it was silly of others. just slip away quietly and let people wonder your fate for weeks to come.

P.S. It was me that was farting in the elevator.

I think you posted something similar during the MPW thread to-do. I think Greg even kept it below his sig pic.

Most of the ones I get are pretty standard: "it's been an honor", "I wish you all the best", I'm only an e-mail away"...blah, blah, blah....

yeah its such a small industry so I figured the obligatory, best of luck, blah blah would be the right thing to do. personally I find them lame and almost immediately delete as soon as they come in.
i think im gonna go w/ the cherry picking option of people internally and externally i want to stay in touch w/ and going w/ the slink out route ended w/ YMB
much obliged

i totally hate my job and would go the "half baked" route.
however if you liked where you worked, then a quiet exit is in order. is there anyone there who would get YMB?

I have always said if I ever leave a job and dont worry about burning bridges - I am going to throw a chair through a window as I am leaving.

Or you could go out with guns blazing like that guy did in Connecticut this morning.

It was a shitty situation. Merrill got bought by Bank of America so essentially our "team" was in north carolina and a few of us worked remotely from the old headquarters. There were a lot of people who were displaced in company that im still in touch w/ so essentially if I knew you and drank w/ you there was an, "f- you f-you im out YMB" email and another "good luck with all future endeavors" email to everyone else.

I love emotional exit and always thought id flip a chair or something on the way out but really it was much more amicable. I just left early afternoon got a big burger and a few beers at the pj clarkes in building and dipped.
Ultimately Ive decided that this is exactly like hating your gf and bitching about her/treating her like shit for a while hoping she'll break up with you so you dont have to do it - and when she finally does you kinda feel bad.

I voted yes but it obviously depends on if you ever want to use someone you might offend as a reference or work with/for them in the future.
