Just leased a 2010 Prius.

With push button start and 50 mpg, I truly feel we are one step closer to flying cars which are proof to me the future is finally here. Forget Ipods and other electronic diversions, flying cars are what I've been waiting for my 48 years on the planet

I never understood this push button start thing. There is nothing new there. Pushing a button is really the same thing as pushing a key. I'm going to glue a button to my key so I have a push button start. But aside from that, congrats. I've had shit vehicles that I hated, and I've had a couple of vehicles that I really like, and driving a vehicle that you really like is far superior.

yea I know its just a button, but as someone who used to drive trucks only, it amuses/amazes me for some reason.

Does Toyota have something similar to Ford's SYNC system?

yea, they have only had push button start on cars for like 8 years now. And tons of awesome cars that use gas to make power have them too. Maybe you coulda got one of those so i wouldnt have to wait behind for you 30 seconds while your prius gets up to 35 MPH

The Japs call it a hybrid synergy drive system

Has a 1.8L DOHC 16V VVT-i 4 cyliner engine, whatever that means

Snoogans, it has more oomph that you think. And I'm saving the environment. What have you done lately for mankind, huh?

No. The SYNC system is a bluetooth voice-activated entertainment system - nothing to do with the drivetrain. You were just expressing amazement with the pushbutton ignition, SYNC would probably make your head cave in.

no, it doesnt. I worked for a company that has a toyota dealership and ive driven tons of prius'. As well as pretty much any other car you can think of. Prius sucks balls. You shoulda got a camry hybrid, or something. Shit my car gets over 30 MPH and actually has a motor that creates power. REAL power to where I can actually not hold up traffic when i merge or accelerate from lights.

and btw, i hate to break this to you, but if you do hit it hard on a prius to give it oomph, you get no where near 50 MPG. In fact, when we would drive them as I normally drive my car for work, they would avg around 31 mpg. You have to accelerate VERY slow for it not to burn as much gas as any other small 4 cylinder. really sorry to crush your dreams with that

edit: as to what I do for mankind, thats easy. I continually educate them to facts they dont understand, esp when it comes to driving cars

1.8 liter dual overhead cam variable valve timing 4 cylinder.

I'm driving a TDI that gets better mileage on the highway, leather everywhere, heated seats and not making a big deal about how awesome I am for saving the environment.

I've heard that the friction coefficient of rubber against asphalt has nothing to do with a car's performance.

its not about that. Thats what these prius people dont understand when they give shit to people who drive cars with alot of power.

Mahwah is in the very populated area but its also the 2nd or 3rd biggest town in area in the state i think. Definately in the top 5. There are plenty of times i can drive where no one is around, even during the day. Or plenty of times im not in a rush to go anywhere when im behind people.

its about driving. Some people like to DRIVE. Some people like to be able to accelerate quickly or take corners at 50 MPH because its fuckin fun. Yet these people act like im a dick because the speed limit is 45 and they are goin 37 so im beeping at them. Im not in a rush, it just BLOWS TO DRIVE SLOW. Driving is boring if you are stuck in traffic, driving slow with no traffic, or whatever else. IT SUCKS. Driving 90 MPH on the highway or ripping rt 202 from oakland to mahwah at 65 MPH is fuckin awesome. Thats why I hate you guys being in front of me. Cause you dont understand that you are the dicks holding up EVERYONE. EVERYONE isnt a dick for being mad you hold them up.

While you may be content to let your contributions go by the wayside, I think this a perfect time for me to unveil my latest environmental "green" strategy:
Recently, I learned about the value of water, and the conservation of such. I learned that running the sink while brushing my teeth is horrendous, that taking excessive showers is an activity of heathens, and that washing my truck should be punishable by death. In light of my recent feel-good revelation, I noticed how much water I was wasting washing my coffee cup every day. Who the fuck am I to waste all that water just because I need to have some coffee every morning? Me, being the proactive type, marched my green ass down to Costco and bought a large box of paper coffee cups (120 ct) and a large box of reciprocal plastic lids (500 ct). My environmentally-criminal subconscious began piping up with some horseshit about why 500 is not divisible by 120, but my new eco-conscious self marched right through that shit. Think of all the water I am saving by not washing a coffee cup every morning.

Speaking of, I was behind a Prius today on the highway who was doing around 70, in that weird zone where he really should have moved over and let me pass, instead he sat in front of me throwing his hand in the air to indicate his anger towards me daring to want to drive faster than he is. When I swung out into the right lane he decided to decide to aggressively swerve over in what I can only assume was an attempt to box me out, until he realized that I wasn't stopping for him, at which point he jerked the wheel over fast enough to almost slam into the median and slammed on his brakes in the middle of the highway. Many laughs were had.

i love these people. they totally disregard that its technically ILLEGAL to get into that line and drive slower than traffic, since you are supposed to legally stay to the right unless you are passing people. They also make you pass them on the right, making you do something illegal because they LEGITIMATELY believe its their right to get in the left lane and go slow. Awesome. keep it up buddies, and then keep wondering why EVERYONE HATES YOU

back in the late 90's, i was convinced that within a few years we'd have self-driving cars (that would allow me to drive to the bar, get drunk, and have the car drive me home). still waiting on that one.

flying cars would be great, if only to save me money on bridge & tunnel tolls.

yea flying cars would be brilliant. People are already TERRIBLE at driving, lets just let them do it up a few thousand feet so that when they hit each other, they fall to the ground and die

It's darn shame that certain Asian Chicks are way to high to care about anything except for themselves and where they can get more illegal drugs.

Keep up the good. It makes a difference to people that matter in life.

its just a shame that people really have no point so they bring up shit that has NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING I SAID.

What does this even mean? My point was if you drive a prius like a real car, and actually accelerate in a manner that you should, that it DOESNT help the environment any more than buying a regular small engine car. Where did drugs come up?

The long term environmental impact and benefits of a car like a Prius are ambiguous at best. Im a environmentally conscientious type but when you factor all the differing transport costs via ships, rails and trucks along with the impact of the mining in order to gather the elements required for the fabrication of batteries and such the long term effects might just outweigh the costs when compared to a domestically produced gasoline powered engine. Another factor will be the end costs for the eventual recycling of the materials of construction, compare the relative ease of recycling a standard car versus the Prius and once again the long term benefits are questionable.

Its a step in the right direction but........sorry to rain on your parade getting a new car is a big deal and I hope you enjoy it.

My friend had pretty much the same shit go down but just add some epidurals and chiro work before he finally went for a surgery consult. Same story. Epidurals didn't touch it. I was coming out of electro-shock therapy when my main doctor called me and told me not to go to the electro-shock therapy that he had recommended because it wouldn't help. Thanks for telling me after I sat there for an hour with electric bees attacking my back. Any way, the surgery eliminated the sciatic pain almost completely. Now I get out of bed like an 80 year old, but at least there isn't a river of acid running down my leg.

These new "green" cars have huge battery banks in them right? Those things gotta wear out over time just like your car battery. Probably very expensive to replace, dangerous in a crash if they split open and dump battery acid.

Eh, I don't really see the appeal, everything I've heard about them is they have no balls behind them. I need a car I can actually do stuff with. I can tow small trailers with my Subaru and actually accelerate with people in the car.

If you're enjoying your Prius, great. I just don't think they're as great for the environment as people want to think they are. Just come to terms with the fact that you're polluting the environment with the rest of us.

Just leased a 2010 Prius.

With push button start and 50 mpg, I truly feel we are one step closer to flying cars which are proof to me the future is finally here. Forget Ipods and other electronic diversions, flying cars are what I've been waiting for my 48 years on the planet

Im not sure how better fuel economy and a push button start helps get us closer to flying cars.

Look at that, i can make my car push button for $12. Flying car, here we come.

no, it doesnt.

The 10 prius has a 0-60 tiem of 10.1 which isnt terrible and hitting the 1/4 at 17.3...which lacks.

I'm driving a TDI that gets better mileage on the highway, leather everywhere, heated seats and not making a big deal about how awesome I am for saving the environment.

You also pay extra for diesel. And you have a turbo. Which adds a shit ton of torque over the prius. probably over 200ft/lbs more.

Same thing here. I immediately got surgery consult after meeting pain mgmt doctor in a social setting, who proceeded to tell me they recommend all that shit to get shittons of cash for the repeated procedures... after a year of drugs and dumb epidurals, the surgery cured that horrific sciatic pain 90%.

I think part of the concept is, you can start it with a push of the button, if you have the "key" in your pocket. I don't know anything about other more modern cars with push button starting, but comparing it to 1930's push buttons is ridiculous.

nissan has had that for a couple years now.

There's talk of power by human waste (methane). Isn't methane considerd a polutant ? Enviros despise cows and pigs for this very same polutant. See any issue of mother earth news 1975-78

That's like saying that if they found a way to use car exhaust as a fuel, that it would be bad because car exhaust is a pollutant.

It depends on what your problem is... if you have a disc sitting on a nerve the surgery is a quick fix. My disc was literally sqaushed and on top of a nerve. The pain down my leg was unfucking bearable. Now I'm just kicking the percocet... it's taken me 3 months of stepping down in dose. Just try to not stay on meds long... I was on percs for almost a year and the withdrawal is horrible.

At local landfill, they are installing equipment to harness the methane that comes from the dump, and produce electricity. They will be producing electricity that will be sold back into the electrical grid bringing in $500,000 a year in revenue. Previous to that, they just burnt it off.

Sounds similar to what I've got. Really started noticing it after a 4 day road trip this spring, and sitting on my ass the whole time. After a few trips to the family doc, he finally referred me to an Orthopaedic doc. Saw the MRI, and there's a bulging disc between L5 and S1, and I could see where it was crushing the nerve. Yup, a lot of pain down the leg. We haven't discussed surgery. I just started worrying that I was going to have to continue to treat with the anti-inflamatories, muscle relaxers and pain meds indefinitely, and he suggested some P.T. to work on decompressing, stretching and strengthening to take some pressure off in lieu of a cortisone/steroid injection under xray.

I truly recommend talking to a surgeon and getting their opinion on it. It surely was a waste of time and effort for my friend, as it seems for many here as well. A lot of unnecessary copays, pain and time wasted in the end you may be able to avoid but make sure to go to a very well respected surgeon.

Try the PT for like 6 weeks and maybe ONE injection. If shit isn't feeling better after 6 weeks, get thee to a surgeon. And go to a few different ones. I had one quack dude who said he could cure me 100% with a spinal fusion, which is a major surgery with a hospital stay, 3 months recovery etc. I found a different surgeon who said 75% chance of resolving the issue, with possibility I may need more surgery in the future, but no need to start off with fusion. He did the discetomy where they removed part of the disc and I'm a much better. That leg pain was pretty much immediately gone.
