sexual harassment?

my assistant manager has been getting progressively more creepy for the past two weeks or so. he comes over about 5 or 6 times a day about nothing. he keeps just like chatting me up. this afternoon, he started playfully poking me in the back/shoulder area. i turned around and shot him a look and said "do not touch me". he didn't stop... then i asked him to go away. he said he wouldn't go until i gave him a smile. I'm not sure what to do, and i'm not sure if this qualifies as harassment. i mean, i've always kind of thought of it as any kind of unwanted advance that makes one of the people uncomfortable, so i guess in that case it is...

i just don't know what i should do

I dont know if it actually qualifies, personally I think if it makes you feel uncomfortable, then I think it should qualify as harassment. I have had this situation before, and Luckily I was friends with another manager, and they took care of it for me. I have also had this problem with a pier and had to go to a supervisor, it's not a fun thing to deal with.

If you feel uncomfortable, it's harrassment. You've told him to go away and he doesn't. Most companies have a "Zero Tolerance" policy regarding sexual harrassment. Check into it. I hope this creep leaves you alone!

It might not be Sexual Harassment, but it is Harassment nonetheless. Tell him to leave you alone, or you'll have to take it up with someone higher up on the corporate chain. That should at least scare him enough to get him to stop.

Or you could knee him in the balls and watch him writhe in pain and say "I'll stop when you give me a smile".

harasment is basicly makin you feel unconfortable.. the corect way of aproching this is to contact his superior.. telling him that he is making you feel uncomfortable. If he continues after the time that you have spoken to his superior then you can press charges

took like 4 sexual harasment clases with each damn job that I have gotten... some places ... really rediculos but even lookin at someone the wrong way can get you in trouble

It's definitely harassment, Arienette. Any unwelcome attention, physical contact, or sexual advances is considered harassment. If it bothers you in the least, don't hesitate to report him. If he sees that he's getting away with it, it will only get worse.

I agree with figment. Do exactly what he said. I've gone to tons of training classes as well. Your manager isn't allowed to touch you at all. Don't threaten him or try to get tough. That will only get him angry with you. He could make up some fake shit about you and get you fired. Write back if you have more questions.

i agree strongly with fig, i took those classes also and seen it happen, basically once you go the superior and if it does not stop the next step on that person would be termination to prevent a law suit so something was done, if you press charges and get a lawyer you can get a couple of million so they will do everything to stop it,

If this manager's actions make you uncomfortable, it creates what's called a "hostile environment". This does prevent you from feeling comfortable in your workplace and is a definite indicator of harrassment. F1gm3nt is right, there are many things that can be considered harrassment, because they make the recipient feel uncomfortable.

You should first and foremost tell this guy's superiors what he is doing and that you told him to stop. As Mettelhead said, he could make up something about you to try to get you fired. If you report that he's making you uncomfortable and won't stop when you tell him to, it will let them see that anything he tries to claim about you later on may merely be a retaliation. A good supervisor can sniff out the BS that he may try.

You may want to log what he is doing (times, dates, etc.) especially since having documented instances in the form of a list is helpful if you need to recall exactly what is happening for your superiors.

Arienette, I don't have much advice to ffer on the subject, but if he is making you feel uncomfortable in any way, let him know. Once you tell him hopefully he will stop. If he doesn't tell somebody who is higher up in the rankings than he is. If all else fails, you have to kick him in the balls.

i really appreciate everyone's help. i haven't quite figured out what i'm going to do yet... it's a lot more difficult to do those things than it sounds. there's a lot involved, and things get very complicated very quickly.

however, he did come over this afternoon and put his hand on the back of my neck. that really pissed me off. i think if it continues, i'm going to have to take some action. anyway, thanks to everyone for trying to help out...
