Nobody thought they would attack Iraq given the political climate back then! Remember, at that time we were much closer to Israel having actually been engaged in WAR with other nations in the Middle East, you had the added context of Cold War tensions, and Iraq was basically bragging that they were developing nuclear power to create a nuclear arsenal, so the political climate was actually even more tense and tenuous at the time than it is now!

I had an Arabic friend who was always fond of saying Arabs were also Semites,so they couldn't be anti-semitic. The logic was faulty, but Semites is not a synonym for Jewish.
