I think the media is narrative driven. I think that a group of black kids beating up a group of white kids would be a great narrative for the media to run with. If the idea is to instill fear and anger into the masses, wouldn't this be perfect? There's this bizarre idea that they're liberally driven, but don't you think more conservatives consume mass media?

But why do you think the police won't say these attacks were race related? My guess: some people claimed the "beat whitey night" comments, and the police were not able to find any link. Perhaps the media dug deeper and couldn't find any either? Sometimes, where there is smoke there is not fire. I don't think it's some global conspiracy.

Actually it sounds like Des Moines had its first flash mob incident. And dont act like these dont happen. There have been at least 3 in Philly where hundreds of black kids coordinate on Facebook and Twitter to meet in a certain part of the city (The Gallery and South St. have both been hit). Then they basically run up the street punching and beating anyone thats not black. I guess its not technically beat whitey because they could beat up an asian or spanish person, but white people have took the majority of the beatings. Guys and girls.

The cops have been so outnumbered not only could they barely do anything but very few of these people even got arrested. Its not bullshit. I actually work with a kid that was involved with one of these mobs.

Personally I dont even think its a black and white thing, more like an age and lack of respect thing. The older black community doesnt condone it and has spoken out against it, but they have pretty much been ignored.

I just wish they would run into a Bernie Goetz type that just decides to unload into the crowd the next time it happens. Maybe theyll learn a lesson from that.

Gonzalez and Dawson say things have been further complicated because the people charged do not want to talk to police. Police filed 15 charges against four adults and seven juveniles.
