What a piece of garbage this Bloomberg is. I am a non smoker, however Bloomberg was literally in tears talking about freedom and tolerance last month about a mosque. But if youre asmoker you have no rights.

Or maybe its because NYC is low on cash and needs to rake in more revenue????

Yea, that's going too far. You think cops will really want to write tickets and do the paperwork because they saw someone smoking in Central Park?

Maybe they'll let us smoke in that Ground Zero Mosque/Cultural Center.

parks i dont know, i dont go much to them, but im a smoker and people shouldnt be allowed to smoke on the beach. their is no ash trays, so people just bury that shit in the sand or leave it right there. I dont wanna step on some old cigar or cigarette buts with bare feet while im walkin around on sand.

So ban smoking outside at parks and beaches because there's no ashtrays and people litter? Why do that when you can fence them in and have swat teams frisk people for things that might potentially become trash during their visit?

It's easy to put these on the beach and fairly inexpensive too. (http://www.globalindustrial.com/p/janitorial-maintenance/outdoor-ashtrays/free-standing/gray-outdoor-ashtray?utm_source=google_pr&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=Free-Standing-Ashtrays-google_pr&infoParam.campaignId=T9F) I just don't understand why we have to ban smoking because some asshole throws trash on the ground. It's already illegal to litter on beaches and in parks and anywhere else. This is like the idiots at FDA that want to make cough syrup prescription only because some teenagers abuse it. We don't make cars, planes, buses, trains, and anything faster than walking illegal because somebody might be killed. We regulate speeds. Regulate litter and leave people that are consuming legal products like cigarettes alone. If we're going to oppress smokers everywhere they could possibly ever light a cigarette then let's just make all tobacco products illegal and ban them outright.

It pisses me off when I have to pick up other people's fast food trash from my yard every day, but I'm not trying to ban eating on sidewalks over it.

This.

Its not enough the non-smokers got the fucking bars, now they get the beaches and parks too? Just a matter of time til sidewalks are next.

Whiney fucking pussies.

what authority does this a-hole have to ban legal activities without any sort of vote or legislation?

oh wait, when he finds laws he doesn't like (like term limits), he just strong-arms the city council (another bunch of a-holes) with threats until they overturn the law.

a-hole health nazi midget!!! :furious:

How exactly are they planning to enforce this anyway? Tickets? I dont go to beaches in NY so I dont know but I know if it happens in Jersey Id just have the occasional smoke I normally do and if they try to ticket me just tell them I dont have ID and give a fake name and address.

KatPw

I imagine they would enforce it just like they would enforce someone smoking a joint at a park/beach. They would walk right up to you and write you a ticket.

They only write tickets for joints? I never knew. But like I said if you say you dont have ID and give them fake information,....then...oh well?

I know people get away with this, but I think the cops do have the option of arresting someone who claims no ID on a simple citation. I doubt it would happen if you didn't piss the cop off, but I'm sure the possibility is out there.

Oh absolutely. Im sure the cops are thrilled with this shit too. I know alot of cops that still refuse to pull people over for talking on their phone because they think its a ridiculous law.

In at least one county here, they are going the opposite direction with the cell phone thing. Cops are complaining that the texting law is unenforceable, since it's still legal to dial numbers while driving. They are now pulling people over for ANY signs of distracted driving, which would cover damn near anything that has you driving in a less than perfect way.

I think they are more in agreement with the texting then the talking on the phone, which I can undertsand. You dont have to take your eyes off the road to talk on a phone. Ive got alot of cop friends and theyve all told me they will not pull people over for talking on the phone.

Locally here in the next town of Linwood, city council passed an ordinance banning smoking on the bike path. So now the Linwood cops go out in plain clothes and sit on the path's various benches and wait for smokers to walk by and issue them a ticket. It does nothing but raise revenue for the town, and dstracts the cops from the real crime.

I hope Bloomberg trips and falls into a pile of asbestos.

That's why there are littering laws. If someone throws a butt or cigar on the ground issue them a littering ticket. I agree with that, but the health issue is BS. Second Hand Smoke while outdoors is a bunch of crap.

I remember years ago bartending and having this lady ask me"You allow people to smoke in here???" I said "Youve gotta be from California." When she said she was and asked how we could let people smoke in bars here I told her "Lady this is the east coast. People like to mind their own business and not whine about shit that everyone else does. Those goofy anti smoking laws you got out there will never fly here."

I cant believe 10 years later how wrong I was. Its embarrassing they let that shit fly here. All it did was open the door for them to cry about smoking everywhere else. If they wouldve been shot down about the bars they wouldve just shut the fuck up. Now they go after the parks, beaches, outside office buildings, inside our own fucking cars...so ridiculous.

i got chased away from smoking next to an office building in the city by a security guard. they have signs up all over saying no smoking is allowed within 25 feet of any door to this building. on top of this i was on the side of the building with no doors anywhere near me (and of course no windows that open). i can't imagine they have any legal standing on this one, even with bloomberg in office, but what are ya gonna do?

Smoking is banned even in bars down here in North Carolina and Virginia, where Tobacco is supposed to be king. I was at a bar the other night in Tennessee where it is still allowed. Looked odd to see people smoking at a bar, which is sad.

A friend of mine owns a co-op in Manhattan; they want to ban people from smoking in their own apartments there. It's an old building (built in the 1920's) with thick masonry around all the units but the reasoning is smoke could seep out under the door and into the hallways.

Now we're giving up freedom for things that might happen. Madness.

i dont smoke, but this is a load of bullshit. like someone posted earlier, put those portable ashtrays and move on. :wallbash:

some dumb bitch in the article was talking about how the smoking ban was a good idea because kids would pick up the butts and play "smoking" with them. i thought to myself, if you taught your kids not to be such fucking pigs and actually watched them, this wouldnt be happening. Hell, pull up yo gabba gabba's "tiny ugly germs" song on your phone if you dont feel like explaining why. but for fucks sake, dont encourage a nanny state just because you want to be a negligent parent. :furious:

I rarely smoke on my balcony anymore because I'm worried that one of my neighbors might have a window open and complain.

But I guess making noise through walls and ceiling is still OK.
