Then we'd like you to join us in Washington, DC on October 30 -- a date of no significance whatsoever -- at the Daily Show's "Rally to Restore Sanity."

Not true:

1938 – Orson Welles broadcasts his radio play of H. G. Wells's The War of the Worlds, causing anxiety in some of the audience in the United States.

This is going to scare the country the same way!

I dont know...something about this doesnt seem right....

The street theater action was committed on April 4th in near blizzard conditions when 20 "fanatical pro-war" supporters occupied the opposite side of the downtown street to rally in support of the war and oppose of the peace activists who gather every Friday for the weekly peace vigils.

The 20 "pro-war" supporters dressed in suits, waved American Flags, chanted slogans in fierce support of war, death, and killing. Rush hour traffic drove by and honked in approval to the flags and signs that read: "Freedom Is The Enemy", "Bomb My Car", "Get A Brain Morans", "Iraq Out Of Iraq", "Draft My Child", "Send Our Infants", "Soccer Moms For Blood", "I Want More Meat", "War Is Peace", "I'm Pro-Life And Pro-Death", "Stop Reporting The Facts", "Peace Is For The Afterlife", "Bush Is The Savior", "This Is No Time For Thinking", "Pro-Bush Lesbian", and "Ask Me About My Baby Killing Honor Student" among other slogans.

Why the heck is the metro so far underground?

It depends on the stations. Some are above ground. Some stations (like Bethesda and Rosslyn) are deeper than others presumably because of power/water lines.

I think we used to use the van ness station. Whichever it was seemed like it took weeks.

I think we used to use the van ness station. Whichever it was seemed like it took weeks.
Some of them are strange. It's been a long time, so I can't remember the exact configuration, but the station at Arlington National Cemetery is an odd one. If I remember right, I had to go down to one level, then take another escalator buck UP a level to get to the train.

Now that I think about it, it's possible that it was a different station, and maybe one train let me off at one level, then I had to go up to another level to catch another line.

Well done on Stewart's speech with the exception of this:
So what exactly was this? I can't control what people think this was, I can only tell you my intentions. This was not a rally to ridicule people of faith or people of activism, or to look down our noses at the heartland or passionate argument, or to suggest that times are not difficult and we have nothing to fear. They are and we do.
Yes, it was. Be honest with yourself at least. Other than that one bit, well done.

by using ariel photographs of the two events CBS says...

CBS has a completely different tactic. It commissions a company to take aerial photos and then comes up with an estimate later. In August, CBS estimated Glenn Beck's attendance at 87,000. National Park Service estimates between 300,000 and 325,000 people attended the Glenn Beck rally.

Rally Permits: 60,000 to 150,000

Whatever the estimated attendance figures from the rally end up showing, Comedy Central's permit was for 60,000 people. It ordered 500 port-a-potties for the event, which are recommended at a ratio of one for every 300 people. Using those figures, the estimated crowd would have been 150,000.

I don't know if this is the right place for this, but today I saw a "Tea Party" event on Staten Island. It was really odd. Sorry, National Parks Service no longer does estimates. They haven't done estimates for a few years, actually. The cops that were on site were telling me that it was way bigger than Beck's though. They said they hadn't seen a crowd that big since the Inauguration. This pic explains it best:

http://imgur.com/AoxXh.jpg

What really amazed me when I took a walk around was the amount of people filling the streets around the mall for blocks and blocks back. It was really packed. I walked away from our spot to try to go 3 blocks back where they had a refreshment stand that I thought MIGHT take credit card (I had no cash on me). It took me a full hour to get back to my spot because it was impossible to even move.

Paul Mulshine fron the Star-Ledger went to the rally. Here's his report:

http://blog.nj.com/njv_paul_mulshine/2010/10/mulshine_stewart-colbert_rally.html

Consider all the people who stopped on the way in to have their pictures taken with the guy holding the big "Vote the lawyers Out" sign.

His name was Dave Carlin and he lives nearby in Maryland.

Carlin informed me — and anyone else who would listen — that there are 57 lawyers in the U.S. Senate and that they go out of the way to make life more lucrative for their fellow lawyers.

That didn’t stop lawyers from stopping to get their pictures taken with Carlin. "My wife’s a lawyer," said one snapshot-shooting hubbie. "But she’s a good lawyer."

"I always get a pretty good response from lawyers," Carlin said. "They realize they shouldn’t be involved in making the laws."

That’s an excellent point, but one made more often by tort-reforming Republicans than Fox News-hating liberals.

I spied a guy on a curb holding a banner pointing out that the price of gold was $700 an ounce under George W. Bush and is $1,200 under Barack Obama.

Aha! I thought. I’ve finally found a libertarian. The Ron Paul crowd is obsessed with the price of gold. They never miss a chance to point out that a high gold price is a sign of a sick economy.

That was news to this kid. "This is an indicator that at least one thing went up," he said. "Hooray for Obama!"

1. you could go to rally's for both sides and find several people who don't represent the group well.

2. asking about keynesian economics isn't exactly a reflection of a person's knowledge of the issues or general intelligence. Next time you go to your docotor, for example, ask him/her if she knows what keynesian economics is.

3. i'd like to see a true economist ask the right wingers (who think they know what keynesian economics is) a few questions and show that their knowledge is just at a wikipedia page level.

He just really wishes his far right kin weren't seen as rubes.

There are tons of rubes on your side as well. Whats your point?

My point was already made. You've been rambling on about Kenya.

Meaning you can't see the difference between flat out asking someone something like "do you think Obama is a Muslim?" or "do you think Obama is the antichrist?" and the like and then laughing at the responses and someone asking "do you think Obama is a Kenyesian?" and acting like it's the same damn thing!!!!

I really wish I wouldnt have to repeat myself but I feel I must. The far right doesn't want me in their camp. When it comes to a lot of social issues like Gay marriage, DADT for the military, I am in favor of that. When it comes to gay marriage let the voters in that particular state decide. Same with with prop 19. I feel that people should believe in whatever they want in regards to religion as long as they don't force it upon me. I don't know if God exists. Its possible that he does and its possible that he doesnt but I am not going to say that he definitely does or does not.

The Neocons wouldn't want me either. I don't believe we have an obligation to nation build and set up a Jeffersonian democracy all over the world.

I was for building the Park 51 ctr. Again the far righties would criticize me for that. Farm subsidies and corporate welfare for companies like ADM. Get rid of them!

Sarah Palin is just another MILF. Shes' not the messiah

Repeal the patriot act and disband DHS. (Thats wishful thinking I admit)

No one will ever make the correlation of not knowing Keynesian is attributed to being a rube. It just won't happen outside of your futile attempt to do so. You can't compare such matters to the idiocy that is constantly shown at rallies such as Beck's.

There are dopes on both sides. 25% of Repubs think Obama is a Muslim. There is probably the same % of Dems who think 9/11 was an inside job

proof?

(not that 9/11 wasn't an inside job, but that 25% of dems think that?)

Actually, most of the Truthers probably consider themselves Libertarians or "independent!"

WF posts a tea party video fight to show how. The Rally to Restore Sanity/March to Keep Fear Alive - 10/30/10 DC are alike with the tea party.

C'mon man
1 When you bring up your right wing garbage have a point.
2 Never compare tea party with stewart/colbert fans.

All he was saying is that no ideology has a monopoly on idiots. They are in ample supply on all sides. On this very board, for example: One side has Dude! and the other side has you.
