View Full Version : Should I call a store mgr who interviewed me?

On Wednesday, I had an interview at Pier One Imports. The manager said he would call me that night or DEFINITELY Thursday about the job. He never called. I thought I handled myself well (but, then again, I thought I did well on the other interviews I've had).
Should I call him? If I do, would I look like a complete moron if he didn't want to hire me? If I don't, would it look like I'm passive and don't want the job?
It's JUST a part-time job but I really need to get out of the house! If it were for a "real" job, I might drop an e-mail to let them know I was still interested.

I did that with someone I interviewed with months ago. (mortgage job) I walked into the office and asked for that specific manager. I asked him very politely "I know you said you were going to call me back last week...I hadn't heard from you. I just wanted to know if you filled the position or are you still doing interviews?"
The said he was still doing interviews but he said he appreciated my follow up.
I wasn't hired but I think if you come in and ask politely what's going on you might get your answer right there.

I think it's a good idea to call, because even if it doesn't help you get the job this time, it'll show the manager you're interested, so if whoever he did hire doesn't work out, or when it comes time again to hire someone else, you'll have an advantage.
I mean, a little networking doesn't hurt anyone.

Yes call or drop in. I think this happened to me long ago. I called back. Then weeks later got the job.

Definitely worth the follow up, especially done in person. If this mgr finds it off-putting, you might not have wanted to work for them anyway. Think of it as another chance for you to interview them.

Call him, and best of luck!

Perhaps go down to the county center and look up his home address. Knock on his door and ask him.
Just kidding. I doubt it would hurt to call him (don't email), but think about how you are going to inquire. You don't want to inadvertently come off angry or accusatory. I say don't email because it is too easy to misconstrue emotions, or project one's own onto an email when reading it (kind of like messageboards).

Definitely follow up. They may have hired someone else, but often that does not pan out and they'll remember your interest when they need to hire again, maybe very soon.

Always follow up. It shows you want it more.
Good luck.

Go in for a follow-up, but bring some insurance just in case. I prefer a .44 Magnum, but you might want something smaller if it's your first hostage situation.

Agree with everyone else. You should call to show your interest. It doesn't hurt to show a hiring manager you're serious.

Did you follow up?
