It has nothing to do with whoever wins. I just love watching the results come in and the stupid maps and everything.
Is anyone else pumped for the coming week?

It means nothing to me locally, this time around. The only office up for grabs is a clincher for Frank Wolf. Not a chance in Hell of anyone defeating him.

To be honest, I haven't been following local elections around me. I don't think any of them are going to change much.
It's just an exciting time to me, regardless of if there is a big ticket race in my area. I'm a bit of a political geek I guess.

What are you talking about? DC is about to get a new Mayor. I wonder who it will be!

Two things that amaze me about American politics...First I will never understand the Limbaugh phenomenon and secondly why is there such hate for Sara Palin...the woman is an invention of the media, only echoes what her "followers" are already thinking and the only way she gets to be president is if a virus kills every citizen, but 100 people at the Alaskan republican party convention.
BTW Limbaugh's suggestion that he will go to Costa Rica seems odd in light of the fact that the country offers government-financed universal health care.

Because she is an incredibly scary, uneducated, uninformed religious wacko that actually could have been VP.
She was in the running. It could have happened. So, she's not exactly just an invention of the media, she was actually IN THE RUNNING TO BE IN LINE TO THE PRESIDENCY.

I dont think she's going to be the nominee. Romney and Huckabee both bad candidates with their flaws are more qualifed than Palin could ever be.

I think the real fear was that McCain would gain the majority of votes from the ultra religious and the bible belters, despite the fact that sarah palin was on the ticket, and possibly steal the election with those votes. So by default we would have had a VP who can't answer a question as simple as what newspapers she reads because she wasn't told what to say. God she would have been a "proud" VP though eh?

at the time, i was pretty nervous before the results came out. again.....same reason i made use of the phrase, "steal the election". it was pretty nerve racking to think that McCain and idiot Palin could have been running the show. As poised to win as Obama was, upsets do happen, and no matter how sure a thing is, there is always that nervousness until it actually does happen.

Cut Federal Pay, Social Security, Medicare, Military Budget.
OK, so he's lost the vote of every federal employee, old person, poor person. Fort Campbell and Fort Knox seem like good places to trim the military budget, so that's another 100,000 or so votes.
What's left? How in the world does Kentucky elect a person who immediately fucks them in the ass?

The zero liability voters and many Federal employees vote for the Dems. Many federal employees are basically redundant paper pushers and bean counters I saw his interview on This Week He doesnt want to cut soldiers/sailors etc pay he doesnt want the military industrial complex to continue, neither does he want nation building and unnessary wars this is something that most of us can agree with. The only people he would get angry are defense contractors
Social Security is a ponzi scheme. It's insolvent. No trust fund exists, basically some IOUs are being stored away. I have 30 years until I retire and I will NEVER receive one dime I put into it.
Medicare is also another waste of money which caused unintended consequences, they did not factor that people back in 1965 would be living until age 80.
Texas wants to drop out of Medicaid, More states should do this

I'm speaking from my point of view, of course, but obviously you don't understand Medicine. ALL states have laws that say "Patients cannot be refused emergency care because of inability to pay " . So, when Texas or other states cut their Medicaid, what happens? Well... one of 2 things ; 1. Every hospital in the state goes out of business, because every poor person who went to a clinic now will go to the emergency room for their medical care , and when your ER census QUADRUPLES with people who won't pay, you go out of business 2. Every hospital closes their emergency room , so they don't lose their shirts
Either way I( and every poor person) am FUCKED
Medicare needs to increase their premiums & raise their retirement ceiling. If life expectancy goes up, so should the retirement rate . The premiums have a ceiling after a certain point. My Medicare contribution stops around August of each year. After that ,I pay no more. It shouldn't be that way .
As for military spending, if the Defense secretary could cut shit that isn't needed , and even the MILITARY doesn't want , he'd save about 75 Billion.BUT, those defense contractors have plants in every state, so no Senator is going to cut jobs in his state.Gates is going nuts over this .

Isn't this a simpler way to deal with healthcare? I am using Ron Pauls solutions because he's a medical doctor. Managed care and government intrusion does not work.

Looking at the page now. Hoo boy.
1. Replace Medicare with volunteer pro-bono medical care? Yes, sell THAT to organized Medicine. Lets flip that.Should you take a paycut (= "pro bono") of 40% to help out the country? Won't happen.
2. Private Medical Savings account- Works until you like, get sick, then everybody with cancer / major disease DIES.Or is that what Ron's looking for?
3. Insurance companies & govt make healthcare unaffordable.Well, both Medicare AND insurance companies are setting the price. But the insurance companies also set the price LOW ,while the pharma/med companies also set the prices LOW.BOTH groups have lobbies in congress.
5.Socialized Medicine won't work ; Neither will managed care. Uhh, well, socialized medicine DOES work. Look at the WHO's list of best medical care in the world (That's for ALL medical care, not just for shiny machines & hospitals). All the one's on the top have socialized medicine. What he means is it wont work HERE, as congress AND the presidency is bought & paid for. The first thing that went out the window was single payer in Obama's healthcare reform .It would have saved the most money, but lost the pharma/insurance companies billions.So..poof..

1. he's just one doctor. the majority disagree with him.
2. one of my colleagues is from kentucky. her brother is an ophthamologist there. There aren't many ophtho's in Ky, so they know of one another. Rand is known as a poor physician, to say the least. Yes, you can make jokes about what your boyfriend's cousin's roomate's sister said about something, but then look at my point #3... Rand's not even board fucking certified.
3. Look at this shit about Rand's doctoring skills... he is an embarrassment to the profession:
I even took the link from Foxnews, even though they try to put a non-negative slant on the situation. (http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2010/06/14/rand-pauls-doctor-credentials-questioned-lacking-boards-certification/)

Bringing up Rand's doctoring is the last thing a supporter of his should ever do:
"U.S. Senate candidate Rand Paul says he is a “board-certified” ophthalmologist — even though the national clearinghouse for such certifications says he hasn’t been for the past five years.
Rand Paul, who practices in Bowling Green, says he is certified by the National Board of Ophthalmology, a group that he incorporated in 1999 and that he heads.
But that entity is not recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, which works with the American Medical Association to approve such specialty boards.
So Rand Paul created his own board of ophthalmology, created an “address” for the board at a UPS store in Bowling Green, put his wife on the board as Vice President (she claims not to have done anything on the board) and certified himself"

Youre making it out to be that he got his degree from the Univ of Phoenix online
"Paul, a graduate of Duke University’s medical school, said he was board certified under the American Board of Ophthalmology for a decade. Paul has been licensed to practice in Kentucky since 1993."
In the late 1990s, Paul was a driving force behind forming the National Board of Ophthalmology to protest the ABO’s exemption policy.

Ron Paul- graduate of Duke medical school.
There are many ways to get into med school- being smart is one way. But neptotism is huge in med school admissions. And then the dirty secret of med school is P=MD. So at the very least, everyone needs to pass their medical boards and get certified.
Pelosi and Obama have as much to do with health care policy as W, Boehner, Mcconnell, Gingrich, Hasert. By your argument that any MD who holds an elected office should be the end all be all of determining health care policy means you agree with everything howard dean did as vermont governor.
Bottom line- Rand didn't get Board certified AND made up a fake organization with some lame ass excuse for needing to do so. As you said, he wanted an "exemption" to get board certified- just take pass your Board exam and get certified; don't look for exemptions.

From this week's New England Journal of Medicine regarding The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act:
"Overturning the law would effectively de-insure 32 million Americans, deregulate the insurance industry, strip insured persons of coverage protections and enhanced benefits, and worsen the projected federal budget deficit — all while the number of people without insurance gallops upward, along with premium prices"
So if you're following the medical profession instead of Pelosi, it looks like it is the New England Journal of Medicine versus Rand Paul, a guy who couldn't pass his medical board recertification so he made up a fake organization to give him a fake license.
