House: 216:219 Reps.
Senate: 54:46 Dems.
Hopefully.
I know it's going to be bad, but I have faith in it being better than expected for Dems.

How has he never run for public office? I pity the fool that wouldn't vote for Mr. T.
What you are really looking at is a split legislature. The GOP takes the House, the Dems keep the Senate in a Lieberman-proof majority.
The interesting possible outcomes will be:
1. How does this change Obama's operating style?
2. How far does John Boehner play his hand?
3, Do the new "Tea Party" republicans fall in line with GOP leadership?
4. How do the polling companies fix their data gathering efforts to account for the growing numbers without landlines?
How has he never run for public office? I pity the fool that wouldn't vote for Mr. T.
That's a T Party I would support!

I don't think it will be as bad for the dems as the media is making it out to be, but no matter what the outcome, I am just SO tired of election coverage and endless speculation about what will happen, and this was a NON-PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION.
Can you imagine how stupid and annoying the next 2 years are going to be?
We no longer have a government. We have a group of perpetual campaigners. This problem will never be fixed, as the people who can fix it (politicians, media) gain too much off how the current system works.

that is indeed scary..
i did find the whole scantron process to be slow. it took *way* longer to vote that the old green pull machines. im not trusting the computers too much either. there were a few jams that occured and vote papers got chewed up. the only thing that comforts me is that there is an acutal form that i filled out and can be reviewed should recounts need to occur.
the poor old people could barely read those scantrons. the print was pretty small (i took that pic very close up, which is why u see my finger's shadow). lets see how this turns out.

The NYT did a state by state education/IQ map of the entire US last year. you'd swear it was a 2008 election map, with the blue states on either coast being the most educated,, and the southern red states being the least. No foodstamps, section8, welfare entitlements etc. for illegals.
Hospitals should not be required to give them medical treatment.

actually this is a fallacy. it appears as though they don't learn the language versus prior immigrant groups. In the past, an imigrant group came in a wave, and the 1st one or two generations didn't speak the language, but eventually later gernerations in america did. The difference with Hispanics is that the immigration hasn't occured in one wave. Those families that have been here for for several generations have learned english. I said the people that share your viewpoint, not you in general.
I have my own take on spirtuality. I believe in God. I believe in Jesus and I believe in his teachings. That being said I dont believe in most of the rules of the church or their opinions on certain things. Thats because these rules were made by men. They werent made with the intention of helping people, they were made in order to further agendas. Much like how the republican party uses religion to gain votes and further their own agenda. Whether they believe in them or not.
If you look at the teachings of Jesus they were very simple. Be good to each other. Treat others as you would like to be treated. Jesus forgave the Romans. He treated a whore. These were people that were shunned in his community. Much like the church shuns gays. Yet you are willing to let a guy die because hes born below an invisible line? Whether youre religious or not that makes you a scumbag.

call it a fallacy all you want but my family came here and the ones who came here within months learned the language. If they didnt they wouldnt have gotten jobs. Now maybe little old house wives who came here with their husbands and stayed home and never worked, maybe those people didnt learn the language. but back then you couldnt be hired without learning the language. my grandmother worked in a sweat shop in newark and was speaking english within 3 months. She also wasnt allowed to speak Italian at all during her time at work. The owner wouldnt allow it and she used to tell me that looking back it was the best thing because it forced her to learn the language quicker. thats why we shouldnt make it easy with all this press 2 for spanish crap. when you come here now there is no reason to learn english because you dont have to. everywhere you go everything is in spanish. Sorry but that is the one thing the right is right about when they say they are losing america. come here and bring your culture all you want, most americans will embrace is but make an effort to also assimilate with the country. learning english has also proven to bring immigrants closer and feel more part of this country.

So, you want there to be a class of working people that live in empty rooms with just a mattress on the floor? I don't understand your point. There are people in this country that work extremely hard and cannot afford to provide for their families. Do you listen to the Ron and Fez show? Did you hear the interview with the woman that did a documentary on families that are forced to live in hotels because they can't afford housing? Those are very real situations, and while those people may have made some bad decisions in their lives, we as a society, cannot let them simply starve to death.
And why bring up Mogadishu or Clacutta? We're talking about poor people in America.

you use some (questionably theoretical) examples of a person abusing government services. We're taking about real people who work or want to work, but the realities of modern living have screwed them over and they need help.
Have you ever been to a homeless shelter? have you ever worked with families that are marginally housed?
These people so often have had someone in the family get ill- and the combination of the person who is ill with the bills from the treatment for their loved one have made it difficult to meet the needs of their family (shelter and food.) They want a job, they want shelter and food, but when you are stuggling for housing every few days, it is hard.

All he really did was make an option that offer healthcare to people with pre existing conditions. the problem is he didnt place a cap on that. In NJ they started to offer the obama plan only to people with pre existing conditions. its unfordable and not worth it. The price is $350 to $450 per month and the coverage is limited with very high copays and deductibles with awful prescription plans. The $350 to $450 a month isnt a bad price but the other expenses will kill you that it doesnt cover or waits to cover. He made healthcare available but the scumbag insurance companies will make it so expensive and bd coverage that people will still be fucked.

The number is not arbitrary, but it may not reflect reality as it does not include does not include government assistance.
So someone who makes 7K plus food stamps, plus cash benefits, plus medicaid is statistically considered to only make the 7K. There is logic to doing it this way as you don't want redistributed money counted as income for poverty purposes, but it does skew the view.

Ive been unemployed and it sucks, Luckily I was able to deliver pizzas and bartend. First, I dont think every poor person is an evil lazy sloth who wants to sit on their ass and collect handouts. Im sure we all know at least 1 person who is unemployed/facing rough times. My brother got out of the Navy after 20 years back in 2009 and with his background still is unable to find a job. Him his wife and my niece are living with my parents until he's able to find something. He has his navy pension but he still wants to work hes only 39. However with bad times there needs to be some responsibility. Him and my sister in law want another child but they can't afford it now because of his situation. Most people unemployed do want to work.
My point is that there are also many people who are happy getting the handout and as long as someone is subsidizing them then they are comfortable.
I do find it reprehensible that our government is allowing illegal aliens , to receive entitlements, welfare etc because they happened to scale a wall or overstay their visa.

Then you don't through out the social services altogether, or vilify all who use or support them. Instead you acknowledge their unfortunate necessity, work to prevent people from needing them (ie. healthcare reform to cover more people so their family doesnt get destroyed when someone gets ill), and work to reform the services so they aren't abused or mismanaged.

Ok. But what can we do if an illegal alien brings their baby into an ER with respiratory distress? Should we treat that child? What if the ER doctor doesn't have time to check the status of the family before giving an albuterol treatment, or placing and IV and giving a fluid bolus, or intubating the baby?
I don't think there is an easy answer. But blanket statements and slogans won't help answer them. It is about real people and real situations.

Of course there are situations like that. I guess it depends on the doctor. I know they take the hippocratic (sp) oath and that they should do no harm however what if the doctor demands payment. After all in his opinion he went thrua ll that schooling racked up a ton of debt. I know doctors are in it to help people but also its for the money as with any other profession. I think there should be safety nets like charities but not at the federal level. I believe that it should be done at the state level. Maybe tax alcohol and cigars / cigarettes a little higher.

That is such a backwards answer for so many reasons.
Social services designed by states encourage migration of the working poor from state to state, hence shifting the tax burden to states that are more progressive.
The other thing you are wrong about is the "cigarette tax" line. Realistically at the state levels, the major sources of revenue are income & property and aren't very progressive by their nature, hence further shifting tax burdens to the middle class.

If a program fails at the state levelit can be axed and something else can replace it. On the federal level we are unfortunately stuck with it.
There are some states without a state income tax. As far as people moving to another state it happened this year in droves. When AZ passed 1070 many people went to CA and NM.

The Republican-controlled state legislature in Oklahoma has already passed State Question 755, or ‘Save Our State’ with an 82-10 vote in the House of Representative and a 41-2 vote in the Senate.
Save our State? Wow, they know how simple their constituents are.
Sharia has many interpretations and in Britain Islamic courts are often used to resolve community disputes involving minor disagreements or matters not considered appropriate for conventional legal measures.
Worst case- used to resolve minor disagreements and matters not appropriate for conventional legal measures. In other words, irrational paranoia.

Many women in Europe are on the bad end of Sharia law used in their state courts? Has there been an instance of violence due to Sharia law being used in US courts?
Paranoia.
Yes, Sharia law in middle eastern countries is a problem, but this law is aimed at the European model. Using Sharia law as persuasive precedent, not as a basis for stoning women or cutting off hands.

I know Sharia law is insane, so the is the justice system of all major religions, luckily Christians are too lazy to enforce theirs.
I also think that anyone living in Oklahoma is insane for thinking they should be concerned about Sharia affecting them to the extent necessary to pass a law entitled "Save our State."

Version of what?
The judge used Islam to interpret the man's intent, not to interpret the law. The appeals court held it was improper.
Islam is a crazy religion that has held onto its true beliefs, Christians are seen as sane because their beliefs have evolved as society demanded it. Muslims still believe in the Koran, very few Christians still believe in or truly follow the Bible.

Exactly. Only addressing Sharia law is pandering to the religious right wackos, not adhering to the 1st amendment.
Side note, why is it that the right wants the Constitution read strictly as it was written, but they have no problem with reinterpreting God's word? The Church is constantly changing the meaning of passages in the Bible. So, the founding fathers are infallible, but God isn't?

He'd be smart to do it, as his owners could just pay him the difference ( Witness Reagan's 1 million "speakers fee ") . Like Sarah P. with her $10K fee, even when speaking at "motivational " rallies ,like Beck's in Washington. 3 speeches for bankers, and Boehner & Repubs could pocket their own paychecks. Of course, that would be perfectly legal, as he wouldn't OWE the bankers anything.
