its really great that that even though there is mixed support on the wars the men and women who are inharms way have all our support. In the end while we are here debating the issues comfortable, having hot showers and 3 hot squares a day, they are doing the heavy lifting under intense physical , mental, and psychological demands.

Without sounding too sappy or getting too political, thats not my intentions in this thread, the men who came back from Vietnam did not have the resources that are available today. I could not imagine someone coming back from 10,000 miles away only to be labled as a baby killer or spat upon and what that was like.

The troops deserve our respect and support, but not bullshit urban legends spread far and wide to discredit anti-war movements! Almost no Vietnam vets were spit on or insulted like that!

I was not saying that there were droves of incidents like this but it did happen. If you want to start another thread for that fine, bur lets leave politics and opinions out of this thread. Veterans deserve our thanks, and support but not our pity, at least not the ones I know. They do not want to be worshipped A simple thank you is more than enough praise. As a former Marine I am damn proud of my service but that does not make me better than someone who did not serve.

Combat vets are some of the most humble people out there. They feel that they did their job to the best of their abilities. I asked my late grandfather about his battles in Europe and N. Africa during WW2 and he would never want to talk about it. He always said that War is Hell. I know that term is cliche these days but Many combat vets do not want to glorify war or their experiences.

I bring it up because it's a cowardly urban legend made up to distract from how the government and the military fucked over too many of the Vietnam vets! They deserved and still deserve so much better!

Check out the hell of a deal a very expensive (well, for here, it's not in the price range of a Ruth's Chris) steakhouse here is having:

A proud salute to our Veterans! We will offer a free appetizer (up to a $9.99 value) to Veterans with a proper ID card (active duty, guard, reserve, retired) on Sunday, November 11. THANK YOU TO ALL WHO HAVE SERVED!

So if you pick the appetizer that's $11, go screw, GI.

Seriously, if you're going to do this sort of thing, don't look chintzy doing it.

and to be honest, they still don't get the support and help they should once they return home

If you feel that way, don't shop at the Gap then. They are making tons from their (Red) collection

what man shops at the gap

second, i can't judge it until I understand the deal

it'd be one thing if Ruth's Chris was offering the steak for free and you pay for the drinks/apps, but this was just a ploy to get people in there
