View Full Version : How old is too old for Doc Martens?

I was cleaning a closet and came across a pair of 10-eyelet Doc Marten boots. I bought them when I was in England in 1989. They are perfectly worn-in. They are a great looking pair of boots.
I gave up on trying to be "cool" a long time ago. I was hoping they'd fit my husband since he has small feet for a guy and the boots were always big on me. No such luck.
I'm 43. Back in the day I'd wear them with tye-dyed skirts or I'd be in all black.
NOW, I wear what's comfortable: jeans and long-sleeved t-shirts. I'm not trying to be
cool; I just like them.
I shouldn't be giving a shit about this, should I?

If you have the Doc Marten attitude, you don't give a shit how old is too old.

I dont think they're going to make you look like you're trying to look hip, I dont think they're all that fashionable anymore. So if you're comfortable and you like them you should just wear them.
Although, since they were made before Doc Martins got bought out, you could probably sell them too.

Yeah those are definitely worth some money.
Especially if they still have spikes coming out of the toe.

Sounds like an endorsement I'd be proud to have on my product.

I think that's what I paid for them in 1989. Good to know they have some value.
Dr. Marten's: The Official Boot of Hatred
Not totally true. I had friends who considered themselves "hardcore." Their band would play the CBGB Sunday Matinees. A lot of the kids into that scene were of different races. They all wore Doc Martens. Neo Nazis weren't welcome at the shows and were thrown out of the venue. Some dumb kid would wear the wrong color shoe laces not knowing what they meant and get tossed.
God I feel so so old.
