I know, very few of us love our jobs. I didn't like my last job but I still did it. I am WAY over my head with this one.

I've done this kind of work before and I hated it. I got fired in July and pretty much had no choice but to return to this vocation. I did it for over 9 years previously. I hated it then. I hate it now. It's waaay too stressful for me.

I dread going to work. I start dreading it all over again when I leave the night before. We had a four-day weekend for the Thanksgiving holiday. I couldn't enjoy it because I was counting off the minutes til I had to go back to work.

Normally I can find something to like about a job. But I can't pretend. I didn't go to work yesterday because I had a panic attack before I left for work.

I feel trapped. My husband got a new job but he has to go through training and that won't pay much. Like an idiot I told NJ unemployment I returned to full-time work. God I feel so trapped. Looks like it's gonna be a klonopin day! whoot.

I dont know how many people really LOVE their job. But, when you hate the one you have it really can mess up your mojo.

Get in the right state of mind by telling yourself that this job is just temporary - you will find and get a better job soon (you are just visiting). I did this for about a year of the last job I had - remaining distant in my mind while smiling and working. It helped me....

I hate to tell you this, you should feel lucky to have a job these day's.
Hate or love it's a job and alot of people do not have a job to hate.
Keep on working and help pay for the unemployed americans.

Pretty sure that if you left this job you'd still qualify for unemployment.

Did you actually return to work full time or did you just tell them you did? If you actually did you have no choice but to tell them and then let them know if the full time job lets you go. Your records would show you lied and they would come back, maybe months later, and want the money back.

If you didn't return to work full time I'd get on the phone as soon as possible and let them know you made a mistake and aren't back to work full time. I've been working my job as a per diem employee since August and I still report to unemployment every 2 weeks. Most weeks I get jack shit because I make 40 hours or more, but my claim is still open. If I make under about 25 to 30 hours I get a small amount from them. One week I got $8 lol. So that's a mistake you can correct.

As for hating your job, I don't have much to tell you there. You're not stupid, you know the economy and the job market. I'd say you're lucky to have work at the moment. Only thing I could suggest is step up resume canvasing but if you hate that field, look in the want ads, see if you see something you may like and then seek training for that.

Right now is the time many, many people are retraining for a new career. I just did it. It's a time investment but you can work around training and then have a new field to move into.

But the sad fact is, you really can't just leave that job unless the stress and panic becomes a detriment to you health.

Thanks all for the input.

Yes, I am VERY VERY lucky to have a job. It actually IS a temp job until March OR June (depending if they need me). That's what's keeping me going-- there IS an end. PLUS, I'm a TEMP. I do the absolute best I can but I keep in mind that I was hired to HELP the permanent staff. And if I work over 40 hours I get time and a half. Plus, the company is prestigious so it won't hurt my resume.

What do I do? I am a production editor at a publishing company. I get a manuscript and I put it through the production process until it is a bound book. There are a myriad of reasons why I hate it.

Editorial gets the accolades when a book is published on time. In reality the production team worked long and hard to make that possible while editorial went home at 5pm. Also, many authors like to take their frustrations out on the PE; we get the brunt of hostility when a copy editor or a typesetter fuck up. Some are "nice" about it. Others will threaten to get you fired. Some have no problem using profanity. If an author wants to rewrite a book a week before the final files are sent to the printer then management (who doesn't have a clue about production) will ok it but not change the printer date.

I try to be "zen" about it and think of all the energy I wasted on worrying about books I worked on that got published in 1997 and are probably in their 3rd or 4th edition.

Today was less heinous than yesterday. I hope tomorrow isn't heinous at all.

Authors are self-centered assholes? I'm shocked!

I quit this suck fest two weeks ago. I was getting paid $3 less per hour than the other temps. Plus I was expected to train the new hires (with benefits) while I had no training whatsoever.

I interviewed on 4 separate occasions for a permanent position. Each time I was turned down I was told I had a chance to "prove" myself. I sent 16 books to the printer in the first two months I was hired (that is a lot).

I know the job market sucks but I could not take it anymore. Being a temp sucks!

good for you, sometimes you just have to do what is right for you. nothing is worse then going to sleep at night dreading the alarm clock because you hate your job so much.

No, I've held jobs quite successfully up until July 2010. First time I've ever been laid off. I'm 44. I've never walked away from a job. This was a first for me.

Most companies/corporations that didn't fold after October 2008 have recouped their losses if not made profits. I worked my ass off and was told-- to my face--that I'll be a "permanent temp." I was also told I was hired to clean up other people's messes. I fixed them. Yet, I was never going to be hired and they hired people from the outside. I was expected to train them while I had NO TRAINING whatsoever.

You think I'm the first person to leave this company on bad terms? Not so much.

Keep in mind that this is the same company that recognized "refudiate" as an actual word. And CELEBRATED it.

I rest my case.

In this economy you really are stuck in your job. I have been out of work since 2008 so I understand how tough it is out there. The question that many people need to think is do you keep a job and be miserable or take a chance and see what else is out there in hopes to be happy.
