If they want to build this then fine, However taxpayer dollars should not be used to subsidize this. Sorry teabaggers if you oppose $5mm in federal dollars to give a grant to park 51 then you must oppose this if taxpayer dollars are used. Build this theme park if you want but use private donations.

and WF do you even live in kentucky? if not, it's not your problem (but maybe knox's). let those backward fucks do whatever they want with their money.
from an msnbc article
Ark Encounter developers seek to recover under state tourism development laws up to 25 percent of the project's cost by recouping sales tax revenue paid to the state on tickets, lodging and other goods.
they are using "taxpayers" dollars to bring more revenue into the state. what is so wrong with that?

Thats not the point. Should taxpayer dollars be used to build a theme park? Also will non christians be able to work there? Taxpayer dollars shouldnt be used for Muslim footbaths in State universities like in Michigan or subsidizing a Christian based theme park

Separation of church and state issues are here. KY will be using tax dollars for Christianity. Sure tax dollars pay for State Univ and Colleges but now theres religion involved. If they want to extend the science center, labs etc or build new dorms then thats one thing , leave religion out.

"Kentucky Announces Creationist Theme Park" It is a religious based property. I would bet they will get tax credits or pay no taxes because it will be considered a religous/tax exempt corporation. Separation of church and state. what is the problem? It will be bringing money to a certain religion not everyone.

The citizenry would benefit equally no matter where the money comes from. And if it's such a guaranteed success, there will be no problem coming up with private funding.
But investors realize it's nowhere close to a sure thing. They probably look at the kind of struggles (http://www.christianpost.com/article/20080110/holy-land-theme-park-gets-makeover/) other Bible-themed parks have had and don't want to take the gamble.

should the Mormon Tabernacle get money from taxpayers to build a new wing? I would bet they bring more tourism into Utah then this stupid theme park will.
How about Great Adventure, should they get money from taxpayers to bring in a Green Lantern ride next summer?
No to all so why should a religious theme park get tax dollars especially when there is supposed to be a separation?

i have no fucking clue. but from what i'm reading in a few other articles, ark encounters, llc is a for profit company (i'm no tax lawyer, but i'd suspect they'd have to pay taxes).
a few quotes from kentucky's governer:
The people of Kentucky didn't elect me governor to debate religion. They elected me governor to create jobs. That's what we're doing here, and that's what we're going to continue to do.
and
There's nothing even remotely unconstitutional about a for-profit organization coming in and investing $150 million to create jobs in Kentucky and bring tourism to Kentucky.

So are they actually receiving taxpayer money to build it, or are they just planning on taking advantage of an existing tax law that applies to all theme parks?
The former I'd be opposed to for both 1st Amendment and free-market reasons.
If it's only the latter, then I don't understand how anyone can deny them. How can you claim that tax breaks apply to Corporation A's theme park, but not Corporation B's theme park? The subsidy has nothing to do with an endorsement of the park's theme, its goal is to provide incentive for tourist operations. If anything, they'd have the 1st Amendment on their side.

The moment it tries for some religion-related tax exemptions, let me know. Otherwise, this is a non-issue.

Is it a tax break or is it tax exempt status? I still don't see this as government endorsing a religion, it's a religiously-oriented business using tax advantages. The only way I'd disagree with their tax status would be if the legislation was tailored to them.

The deal with this park is that they're hoping to qualify for a Kentucky tourism law (completely unrelated to religion) that gives them kickbacks from the sales tax they generate; incentivizing tourist attractions and the supposed boon they provide the area.
What syd might be thinking of is the "Holy Land Experience" in Florida, which, after some contrivances of the law, has been ruled exempt from property taxes to the tune of $300,000/yr.
Probably, remembered it because it was so damn clever. Open a few weeks a year and lose money on lost ticket sales but have everything back on account of tax-exempt status.

By your logic, it's not a Judaic park, or an Old Testament park, or even a Genesis park; it's solely a Noah park. If the only attraction is Noah, then how can you claim to broaden its scope? And if you broaden it to encompass Judaism, how can you claim it stops there? If you're going to use your faulty mongoloid logic, then at least be consistent.

Old Testament is a book shared and held in about equal esteem by the Abrahamic religions -- Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Sure Islam and Christianity make corrections to what believers feel as errors, miss-communications or omissions of the word of God through the Old Testament but it's still a holy book.
There's no real way of making it a Jewish park unless it's like "wear a yarmulke around theme park" since so much of Judaism itself, not just simply the Old Testament, is intertwined and held holy by Christianity and Islam.

Ok the fact you said mongoloid... That was funny!
I am not the one who was trying to say it should or should not be Jewish or Christian right off the bat. This is a religious theme park being built by the state. The whole thing is to show how much the state can even fuck up the Bible.
I was just trying to point out how can it be considered a Christian theme park when anything that would make it fully Christian isn't there.
Yes the Old Testament is part of our Bible but without the New Testament we wouldn't be followers of Christ.
And so far I have not heard of one thing outside of the Old Testament that's being built for this park.
Here:
What better way to boost the Kentucky economy than with a creationist theme park? In a press release this afternoon, Gov. Steve Beshear announced that the state had struck a deal with Ark Encounter LLC—the same people behind Kentucky's Creation Museum—to start building the $150 million park, which, naturally, will have a "full-scale Noah's Ark," live animal shows, and "a first-century Middle Eastern village." There will also be a "replica of the Tower of Babel with exhibits, a 500-seat 5-D special effects theater," and an aviary, for good measure. According to the release, the park is expected to generate 900 jobs and $250 million in revenue for Kentucky, and Gawker's Jim Newell catches that it will also get them $37.5 million in tax breaks. The park is expected to open in northern Kentucky in the spring of 2014.
Noah's Ark and Tower of Babel. Nothing else. I tried looking up Ark Encounters LLC to see if it was a Church owned company but could find nothing. Just they own a "Creation Museum". (Isn't that a plain, old museum?) so I would think they might be.
Besides, if they want to build anything Religious why bring the state into it? Why not use all the money from the Tax breaks they get?
If a Church run group wants to build a Religious theme park with no mention of what makes Christians..well... CHRISTIANS, it's a joke.
Follow?
And you shock me Stan....I didn't know you HAD standards!

I know Syd. I was just trying to say without anything New Testament it can't be a true Christian theme park, could it?
