With his barely noticeable presence on the show, Fez reminds me of Syd Barrett during Pink Floyd's "A Saucerful of Secrets" period. Syd - the founder of the group - was mired in a cloud of mental illness and drug use and his days were numbered in the outfit. For a brief period of time, Floyd was a five piece with david Gilmour on board covering for Syd's absences and inabilities.
Now, don't get me wrong. Syd was obviously in a much worse place than Fez, but it's almost as if the listener forgets he's even in the studio most of the time. A quick quip after prodiing from Ronnie B. and you're reminded that Fez is present.
Pepper has taken on the Gilmour role and has stepped up his role as a major part of the show. There's plenty of room for all three, as there was when Dave was there.
And on some episodes when Fez is part of the conversation, the show is an instant hit. Hey, Fez - get back to that because we miss the old you!
