I just found out that my company offers some training for the PMP ( as well as some other related ones ) certification and I was interested in taking it, to bolster the resume, but the process seems kinda cumbersome.

There's a 35 course prep ( which the company pays for ) but then there's a number of hours you have to have running projects. In my current role I occasionally do run some projects but nothing that'd help me close in on the hours they want.

Has anybody here ever taken the certification ?

Once glued some macaroni elbows to project paper. But that was long ago.
