This thread can be an open discussion where we can post examples. And also post what they mean to you and or how they make you feel.

To me it is like the ads around election times, but it never stops. What takes me aback is how some feel there are no implications. Maybe those who do are just immune to this view after hearing so much rhetoric on a daily basis (Fox News, talk shows, etc.)

I find this discussion interesting which came out of the other thread.
http://ronfez.net/forums/showthread.php?t=89111
And after the news fades away on that topic this thread could be a place for further discussions.

conflict breeds progress
i like "incendiary rhetoric"

distrust of government is good
and so is having strong opinions

you girls seem to think
this is 1859 and we are on
the verge of civil war and
that is utter nonsense

there is nothing unprecedented
about political speech these days

I find it tiring to try to keep up with every day's political news. I just jump in when my eye catches something and then jump out - for months at a time.

It is so easy this way.

I find that most people that keep up with politics everyday are usually mad all of the time...

Good point. I try to follow it, but end up putting on something else.

You forgot to say "vitriol".
This had to be the fastest catch phrase ever.

Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley for his inauguration day remarked about how only Christians, who have been saved by Jesus, could be his bro's & sis's.

All the non-Christians are SOL in that state.

What about the douches who think the Civil War was "senseless."

Just "phase out" slavery....

Ron Paul repeated his claim that Abraham Lincoln should not have started the Civil War to get rid of slavery. "Six-hundred-thousand Americans died in the senseless Civil War," he said. "No, he should not have gone to war. He did this just to enhance and get rid of the original tenet of the Republic," he told NBC's Tim Russert. "Slavery was phased out in every other country in the world," (http://firstread.msnbc.msn.com/_news/2007/12/23/4426982-ron-paul-on-meet-the-press)

Literally the next sentence.
"Slavery was phased out in every other country in the world," Paul continued, responding to the question if America would still have slavery had there not been the Civil War. "The way I'm proposing that it should have been done is do it like the British Empire did -- you buy the slaves and release them. How much would that cost compared to killing 600,000 Americans?... I mean, that doesn't sound too radical to me. That sounds like a pretty reasonable approach."

that would have ended slavery? really? 'i sold all my slaves, so looks like me and my boys will start tending to my plantation. or maybe i'll go hire some recently freed slaves. hope i don't have to pay them to much of a salary.' talk about a cliffnotes understanding of history, at best...

Oh I'm not saying I agree, I'm saying if there was anything incendiary about that quote it would be how much you had to massage it to make it sound like it was incendiary.

WF called some guy (who I've never seen or heard of) a "douche" because apparently WF thinks this guy believes that another Civil War is near. I was just referencing a wacko comment about the Civil War by WF's man crush, Ron Paul.

Oh OK, I see it now, sorry, it's still too early for my brain to be working at capacity.

Although I still don't see how that's a wacko idea. It's not exactly like it's without precedent, the majority of the civilized world abolished slavery without going into a civil war.

First, it is a completely oversimplified version of the factors leading to the civil war. Second, it is completely overly simple to think some money would end slavery. Hundreds of thousands of people were killed, and look how things turned out in the South- dose anyone reasonably think some money would have changed the economic and social realities of the South? Like the rest of Ron Paul's beliefs, this notion is so bizarre and over-simplified, it is really just difficult to know how to address it. The civil war and reconstruction are probably the most well studied and complicated aspects of american history, and he boils it down to lincoln giving the south some money.

But I'm not going to get caught up adjudicating this statement. "Douche" and "civil war" were brought up in this thread, so I brought up another douchy civil war statement. That's all.

Clearly you cant compare the 2.

Dupnik went on the airwaves spewing out nonsense saying that AZ is a home of bigotry. I keep up on the news and current events. Mexicans arent being lynched or being forced to work, They were not shackled and forced across the border. Loughner did NOT listen to talk radio. he is someone with severe mental problems.

Dupnik just like Krugman and other progressives tried to play judge jury and executioner before all the facts were in.
