Cute. Doesn't he have 2 years/$15MM left on his deal that Comcast/NBC will pay out.
We all know that in 2 years, somebody will hire him whether we like him or not, because he does draw viewers.

Some the little info I was able to glean from the WSJ Olberman asked out and NBC agreed. Olberman has been mercurial in the past and this may be just another of those times, but he may also have a plan. How about Special Report with Keith that'd be kind of cool.
But let's not lose sight of the fact that Lawrence O'Donnell is replacing him at eight. I have never been a fan of O'Donnell's politics, but he's definitely one of the smartest guys in the room and is not prone to the hyperbole of an Olberman or O'Reilly.

MSNBC could take a turn towards the right. When it all comes down to it, love them or hate them, the righties bring in the cash. Who knows maybe Savage will come back and go up against Hannity. How about Sliwa vs Beck at 5pm or Ingraham vs O Reilly? Who knows
If Comcast brings in some righties, they might be able to take away the 25-54 demos

Principles 1st but ratings have to come in mind. If the commentators/pundits have no audience their shows get canceled. They need advertising revenue also
Who wants control of the media? Its good that there is left and right on the radio. I do not want a fairness doctrine like the whores in congress are bringing up to exploit Tucson

Seriously WF, we know you have the internet because you post on here. You could just look it up and give a better definition. Your definition mimics the definition right-wing talk show hosts manipulate their viewers/listeners with. And this isn't a freedom of speech issue. The airwaves are (or at least were) PUBLIC, so why wouldn't the government want them to serve in the publics best interest? Allowing idiotic hate speech being in the public's best interest is, at the least, debatable.

Let there be competition. I know you disagree with Limbaugh , Beck and other righties but they are clearly beating out the progressive talkers. There was an entire progressive network in Air America but they tanked. People would rather listen to Michael Savage than Al Franken.

"The Fairness Doctrine was a policy of the United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC), introduced in 1949, that required the holders of broadcast licenses to both present controversial issues of public importance and to do so in a manner that was, in the Commission's view, honest, equitable and balanced"

Really WF you do yourself no favors with these crazy posts.
From the SAME page:
In 1987, the FCC abolished the Fairness Doctrine, prompting some to urge its reintroduction through either Commission policy or Congressional legislation.
and
The Fairness Doctrine had two basic elements: It required broadcasters to devote some of their airtime to discussing controversial matters of public interest, and to air contrasting views regarding those matters. Stations were given wide latitude as to how to provide contrasting views: It could be done through news segments, public affairs shows, or editorials. The doctrine did not require equal time for opposing views but required that contrasting viewpoints be presented.

They do and they are. Rather tarnished his image with lots of wackiness.
Olberman on the other hand really has a shot here. I'm sure he gets total control and a station built around him. This could be an awesome move...It could either be a Howard Stern holy shit you've done well move or an Opie & Anthony start with a flourish and then be relegated to a shared studio move.
Speaking of quitting....Rep. Chris Lee (R-N.Y.) has resigned from Congress after suggestive photos of him were revealed on the Internet Wednesday. Lee was the subject of a Gawker story Wednesday morning that had him on Craig’s List allegedly looking for a female companion.
