I was thinking about this the other day, about where they might have the 50th anniversary Super Bowl. You know it has to be somewhere huge and iconic to celebrate such an event.

These are the top 3 locations that came to mind.

1) The L.A. Coliseum - Where better to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the big game by having it in the location it all began? I know the NFL hasn't had a Super Bowl in a non-NFL stadium for quite some time, but this could be the exception to the rule.

2) The new Los Angeles Stadium (http://www.losangelesfootballstadium.com/) - I honestly didn't even know about this until it was mentioned during the pregame on Sunday. If the Coliseum is out, then this is the next best thing as it's in the vicinity and it's clearly being designed for an NFL team.

3) London - God forbid this ever happens, but Goodell has said he wants to have a Super Bowl over there and being he is clearly more about business than he is about the sport, I could see him screwing over the American fans to have it overseas.

Now, as for the halftime entertainment at such an event, you know it has to be huge. Not some run of the mill current hot artist (Lady Gaga or Justin Beiber), but one who is iconic and considered one of the biggest acts of all time. Two immediately spring to mind when I think this and they are:

1) A Led Zeppelin reunion - Granted, this might be a long, LONG shot, but with them getting the Rolling Stones and The Who in the past I could see this as a possibility.

2) Madonna - We've had Michael Jackson and Prince before and in my mind she made up the trio of the biggest artists to come out of the 80's so she also could be a possibility.

What do you all think about where and who would be chosen for the 50th anniversary of the Super Bowl?

The Rose Bowl should be the site. Especially now they're renovating it.

They may have it in the new LA stadium but there is no way in hell they have it in a college stadium. They wont even have it in an old stadium. It would have to be in an NFL stadium that holds the most amount of people and is new or newly renovated. One of the NFL SB citys they are used to having it like Miami (after the $300 million make over), TB, or SD (if they get a make over too) or New Orleans. That would be great for that city and they would put on a great show for the SB!

Half time show would not be Led Zeppelin. They will not have 70 year old rockers standing around playing music the masses dont know or like. I do agree Madonna might be a choice for them. They would want someone who has been around long enough but isnt going to die on stage! The might even do multiple artist from different generations.

They will probably announce that city next year or so because we already know SB 48 is NJ. 49 and 50 will have to be known soon!

I say we old school this bitch up: We have it in the Los Angeles Coliseum. Anita Bryant does the national anthem with Up With People doing the halftime show. Also, neither team is allowed to use a black quarterback and all odd numbered players will intentionally be given concussions in the locker rooms prior to kickoff and required to play the entire game. In a final bit of nostalgia, we dig up Pete Rozelle and prop him up in the endzone holding the Lombardi trophy. If a team can knock the trophy out of Pete's hand on a thrown pass it is awarded a Rouge.

This year it really struck me that the halftime show not only wasn't for me, but it shouldn't be targeted for me. The Super Bowl already has me, so they need to target that act to under 25 to make sure that they make this game a habit.

Let's just admit that the Black Eyed Peas, while fucking hideous, were probably a good business decision.

That could be true, but I'd have to see the numbers to back it up. It seems to me that the only time there is ANY hype about a halftime show has been The Stones and The Who.

I had no idea who was performing ahead of time. I have no idea who performed in the past, except for The Who, The Stones, and Janet Jackson.

I could be wrong, but I have a hard time believing the Black Eyed Peas is any sort of draw. It's not like they're some rare commodity. They're on every other award show and every fifth talk show. I never hear about Jimmy Fallon cheering about the "BEP bump".

They probably ran out of/got sick of the nostalgia acts and decided, "We have to get SOMEBODY. Who's popular, exciting and safe?"

Its not that they are a rare or hard to book. Its that they are huge right now and the majority of people would want to see them. Not everyone because people who like rock will never give electronic, dance, pop music a chance. But then again the younger people who like this type of music dont care about the stones or the who. I dont know about other people but I dont want to see 60 year olds on stage. I want to here something new and fun. Watching an old guy who cant even breathe after 5 minutes isnt entertaining.

As for knowing who was performing, I knew it they talked about it for 2 or 3 months once they booked them. There was tons of hype about it because it was the 1st time since Janet and Justin Timberlake that they actually had a modern act that people wanted to see. Ever since the majority of "hype" was about how they are booking safe old guys that no one wanted to see!

Admittedly, I'm an old fuddy-duddy so maybe I'm not the best judge. But I do know that my 13 year-old son and his friends are really into AC/DC thanks in part to Rock Band and the Iron Man movies. Sure they're oldsters - they were the first band I saw in person back in 1983 and 26 years later they were my son's first concert - but I think they could appeal to a diverse audience.

Throw in the fact that I'd guess that they are probably one on the most played bands in all NFL stadiums. My son pointed out that they were playing Thunderstruck in Texas Stadium during one of the time-outs during the Super Bowl. I'm surprised they haven't had them do the half-time yet. What do you young whipper-snappers think of that choice? I'll hang up now and listen to your answer.

Location: If the lockout lasts long enough - the Moon. If not Shanghai.

Entertainment: If the NFL thinks it has a real shot at expanding the brand internationally it will be some newish Asian or Latin American pop band with some crossover exposure in the US (for the reasons Epo laid out earlier). The BPEs were a big step in that direction this year.

If our football doesn't catch on with the furriners it will be some awful current noveau Country act that keeps churning out the hits (Rascal Flatts, Taylor Swift?) to make the hayseeds feel like they're the big winners. I wouldn't be surprised if Mr. Garth Brooks returns from semi-retirement for the next extravaganza.

London? Are you insane?

Rose Bowl makes complete sense.
Unless they build some mega-stadium in the next 2-3 years.

Halftime? I have no idea. We've had The Who, Springsteen, Paul McCartney, and Aerosmith over these last few years. (I think Tom Petty also) It's been dreadful. I kept hearing the Peas were horrific. just about everyone I know who watched the hafltime said so. (I was taking a crap...which, apparently, was more entertaining)

Led Zeppelin? Jesus they might be all DEAD by SB 50.
Madonna..well let's hope she is too.

Smails hit it right on the head...AC/DC. Perfect Band for this kind of thing. They have enough hits and play well enough to pull it off. And they span about 2-3 generations with their music.

But I wouldn't mind seeing someone like Brad Paisley play too...yes I dig on country and he's a damn good guitarist.
