Leave the feds out of it.
On a state level, I am all for people who want to join together. Also as far as transfering property, wills, inheritance etc who are gay, I do not have a problem with that.

Right. States' Rights! Leave it up to the states. If a state wants to limit a group of peoples' civil rights, that's the state's choice. President Davis agrees.

Actually there were no states rights in the Confederacy. A state had to be a slave state.
So you want the federal government to pass a ban on Gay marriage?
Speaking of slavery it wasnt just those pesky pale faces.

No. 2 separate questions: marriage rights and states rights. Fortunately we finally have an enlightened president to get rid of of def of marriage act. But leaving the right to decide who can get married up to the states isn't right either- a state (no more than the federal gov) shouldn't be allowed to limit a group of peoples' civil rights. From your state > federal rights point of view, if a state is limiting a peoples' civil rights, you wouldn't want the federal government to interfere. On a theoretical level, it is the same as slavery- of course i wouldn't want the federal government to allow slavery, but i also wouldn't want to leave it up to individual states to decide if slavery could be legal. just because mississippi might want slavery, the federal government needs to step in and protect them from their stupidity.

I think his point is that just because areas have large concentrations of people who don't primarily speak english, doesn't mean the majority of them are illegal immigrants.

Ignorant comment.
There are tons of illegal Irish and Russians in NY for example. Psst they arent brown. There are many who overstay their visa. However the majority of illegal aliens are from Latin America. Thats not racist. Its a fact.

Things like this make me believe Obama may actually being trying to stand for something.

Obama like every politician stands for what will get him elected. The numbers on gay marriage show that people that support the ban wouldn't vote for him anyway. It's a win-win.

I agree.
Its just until that lame duck session where all the shit got passed Obama just seemed like he was not taking a stand and following through on the shit he preached to get elected. I realize that not taxing capital gains was a compromise to get a lot of stuff done but before that it seemed like he was trying to play both sides way to much when he really didn't have too.
I was afraid that obama would even start to lose his base by not standing up on some of these issues.
I am just glad to see him making some moves to get his supporters excited for him again.

I understand the governments lack of action here. See, the US government has long been invested in the tattoo removal business. They assumed people would gladly remove these blemishes.
