Today's ichiban: Union-busting GOP in WI expose themselves as the lying sacks of shit they are by calling the CBA-repeal bill non-fiscal, allowing it to pass thru committee and a senate floor vote without any Dems present. This after a month of saying it was a budgetary necessity to break the union.

Only one of them had the spine and conviction to vote "no". The other 18 are fucking scumbags.

I'm livid about this. They talk about state workers like they're all on welfare. I heard a tea party guy from WI actually use the word "stealing" talking about public workers and their benefits.

And also in my home state the new republican governor decimated the education budget with the democratic stronghold of Philadelphia taking a disproportionately large hit.

The middle class is the enemy apparantly.

Also, good sign having Black Lips kick off New Music Thursday. I was afraid they're only going to talk about bands on that guys record label.

Yeah, I still follow PA politics (lived in central PA from '04-'08), and that state's politics are crazy. I worked on a state rep candidate's campaign one year, and the back-room dealings that get & keep people in power there are ridiculous. Harrisburg's a mess.

I appreciate these guys talking about indie music, but it's not like they're playing a lot of underground shit nobody's ever heard. Sleigh Bells and Edward Sharpe? Shit was maybe new a year ago.

I know they're trying to cater to the average person who doesn't really check out new music, but come on.

Yep. And like realmenhatelife said, pretty much all their suggestions are from the front page of Pitchfork a year ago.

Other than the band they signed they claimed sounded like nothing they've ever heard before (but actually sounded like Surfer Blood), it was pretty beginner level music fan stuff. I guess it's a revelation if all you do is listen to Kings of Leon or Nickelback, though.

I don't think it's "beginner level music fan stuff" although that description certainly does add some of that precious elitism. They are playing a specific genre of music; anyone who doesn't listen to this genre of music will find this stuff new. My complaint is that to support the statement that "rock and roll isn't dead", they've played only commercial music from one genre of pop.

Sorry, I meant "beginner level indie music fan" stuff.

But even that seems too specific. If you pay attention to TV commercials, you've heard 90% of these songs. And if you were interested enough in the song, you probably went and found out who it was.

I think he listens to quite a few different things, but I can't imagine him aloofly rocking out to the Williamsburg Sound. My point is that if they are going to say rock and roll isn't dead, they may want to play some new rock music. I think pop music and rock music are two entirely different things nowadays. And this stuff today is very pop.
