what is good over the counter medicine to stop a burning, acidic stomach whose pain is mostly directed on the left side.

It's hard to find, but theres someting called Di-Gel, it helps with the pain and burning, you should go see a DR. Ikea. I know you probably don't want to go , but I didn't go for a whole year, and was diagnosed with a chronic stomach disorder. Go to the DR. Just make sure It's not something that's serious.

Tums? But if it's a persistent problem you really should go to the doctor. You could have acid reflux or perhaps the beginning of an ulcer.

I find that any medicine that comes in "horse sopsository" form is fun.

Protein, liquid protein. No seriously dude, sounds like an ulcer. It sucks but go to the doctor anyway.

I find Tums or Rolaids to be effective for minor stomach acidity.

If the problem persists, you must see your doctor. Stomach conditions can range from the fairly common reflux, ulcer or irritable bowel syndrome to the more exotic and dangerous Crohn's Disease or cancer.

BTW, ulcers are now thought to be bacterial. They are treated with antibiotics!
