A friend of mine is thinking of moving to NYC from the west coast. What's a good place to look for apartments. He's looking for a studio at around 1300-1500. He's a hipsterish guy, so which neighborhoods should he look at. He was thinking Manhattan, but I'm pretty sure that's unrealistic for his price range. What he wants is the full NY experience, whatever that means.
Any web-sites out there to find cheap apts in the area?

If you are moving here and arent going to live in Manhattan then you might as well live in NJ! You can get more for your money in Hoboken and it is much easier to commute to Manhattan with 1 train (path) and its actually closer! I never understand why someone who wants to live in NY chooses Queens, Brooklyn, Staten Island etc if they cant afford Manhattan. If you cant live in Manhattan dont waste your money and over pay to live in another borough!

Hoboken is pretty fucking pricey now, but don't underestimate the hipster area of Brooklyn for this cat based on his description. He can find plenty of studios right now at that price to store all his skinny jeans and ironic tshirt.

I would rather live in Bayonne or Jersey City then Queens, Brooklyn or Shit Island!

I was living in Bushwick off the "L" line. The Dekalb stop might have something affordable. Hipsters are all over the place there.

My old stomping grounds. I used to run that awesome view for miles every week too. Love that spot.
