This has been on the NY news stations all day like its a major story. Its stupid and if someone didnt point it out most wouldnt notice and even once you do notice why would you care?

Meh, I think they're really reaching for that one. I'm sure we can find better, intentional subliminal messaging.....

even with them pointing it out, its still stupid. It barely looks like it. such a non issue.

Here's what I think: I think it was intentional, and I think Calvin Klein tipped off the press when no one noticed or gave a shit. And the press was more than happy to give them free publicity and create a controversy for themselves to exploit and people to eat up. Carnies and rubes.

Wow, that is a stretch. Even if it was there subliminally, that wouldnt be an issue. You have things suggested to you constantly, every movie trailer where they replace a curse with a reaction shot, or a hot chick in an ad for something. It would only be offensive if it was explicit, if it actually said "Fuck" in big bold letters. Hell, theres a guy in my neighborhood with a bumper sticker that just says "Fuck" and nothing else, do a story on him.

I don't believe in subliminal advertising. I don't think it's real... effective... or even USED.

All that nonsense about movie theaters and not-so-hidden frames is bullshit. I think people that talk about that stuff like it's real are simply reciting something "interesting" that they once heard. Or... more likely... they think FIGHT CLUB was "real".

I've been to a squillion movies in my day, and I've never once thought "ya know something? I could use a cold pepsi right now." ... and then gotten up to get one. Additionally... I've never notice -in a crowded theater- several (4? 3?) people get up at the same time and suddenly come back with drinks.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if there was a shit ton of studies that prove that subliminal advertising is completely unfounded and ineffectual. Never looked it up. Never bothered. It just sounds like so much bullshit to me. Like fuckin' ear-candling, and anything else that says the word "detoxifying" on it.

I'm with Underdog on this, I'm too busy looking at her tits to notice any subliminal messages.

That's actually a good point. Technically, her tits are a subliminal message, seeing that the ad is about something else. Didn't even think about that. I'm just so used to clothing ads selling sex that I've completely forgotten that they're selling clothes.

I think I'm missing your point. I guess neither are technically subliminal.

Yes. That was my point.

Knox can't notice a (supposed) subliminal message because it's SUBLIMINAL!

And a 80 foot high pair of tits is about the furthest thing from subliminal.

It's not what the ad is about, though. Misdirection? I'm not really sure what you'd call it. They're using something other than the item to sell the item.

When I first saw the picture, I figured the controversy would be the fact that the girl is obviously imprisoned in some sort of plexiglas sex dungeon.

Tits attract the eyes. The eyes then read the words. It's not magic.

I usually forget the reading part.

But it's pretty magical.
