I'm going to New York for the first time in my life tomorrow thru Monday.
Staying with some friends who live on 85th near NYU.
Want to check out some dubstep Pepper Hicks style. ;)
Anybody know of some good clubs in the city I should check out?
Any good shows or cool theaters. Thanks for your help buddys!

On 85th and near NYU doesn't make sense.
Watch out for cobras.

Olive Garden in Times Square.
(I figured I'd get that out of the way right off the bat)

I don't live in NYC, but I thought NYU was much further south than 85th. Columbia is in that area, but I think NYU is near the village.

if you're near 85th, go to The Crowe's Nest. I think it's on 95th.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. The only NYU area I can think of is down by the village off Houston!
Edit for things to do:
As for where to go? I would say being on 85th you are near central park thats nice to see. You can go south about 30/40 blocks and be on Broadway by the theater district. There are bars, restaurants and tons of shows to see. Go downtown and see little Italy, Chinatown and the village! Downtown will also be near the meat packing district which has a bunch of new clubs and lounges. You can also go see the Ground Zero while downtown.
There is so much to do, your best bet is to ask you friends or just walk around the city and you will find plenty of things to do. If not someone will hand you a flyer to give you some ideas! Enjoy, its the greatest place in the World!

NYU is around 14th.
NYU Med is around E. 34th.
Columbia is about 116th.
Also Beelzebub, is it East or West 85th?

Yep. I think your "friends" are luring you under false pretences. I forsee you waking up in a bathtub full of ice with a surgical incision on your side.

Baloney. It's just a merging of drum and bass with 2-step garage. There's a huge backlash against it in the drum and bass community, but I happen to like a lot of the dubstep.

All I heard was loud static. There wasn't any structure even remotely resembling music, or a song. Unless I was hearing some other kind of hipster music.

I'm going to find you some examples of decent dubstep. James Blake is hot right now, but he's not fully dubstep.

More grimey than dubstep, but he helped push the grimey two step movement :

dubstep has a very limited range (like reggaeton). It's basically over processed drum and bass without the climax.

I suggest w. 77th and Amsterdam BIG NICKS, awesome menu and great food. Its open all nightband makes a great after hours meal spot, but anytime is good. And they have beer and wine.
Make sure you stop by Molly's Cupcakes while you are in New York City.

He also gives out the opening date. Which is helpful when it changes every few weeks.
