I would find it interesting to see when most left home to fend for themselves out in the scary real world. It seems sooo many now live at home way longer compared to the past. Many factors come into play, so give a rundown on those that impacted your timing leaving.

My story, left for college at 18 and never looked back.

18 is when I started realizing that "home" is just a concept that I don't quite understand.

My theory is holding up...most here either left REAL early or REAL late.

Hell Dspy IS his own parent at this point.

At like 18 I moved in with my grandmother to help her out after my grandfather had a stroke (and later died). I lived with her till she moved in with her son like 11 years later.

Where's the "never" option? My folks had homes in 3 different states. 2 on the East Coast and 2 out on the West Coast. At 23 I moved into one of the homes (after my folks sold 1 of them to take a job out of the country) and still take care of it to this day. So what category is that?

well even though it was of your parents houses i would say that if you were the only one living there then you left or started living without them in your case at 23

I moved back in at 32 (for about 6 months).

I left for college at 17, moved back in after I graduated for a few months, then moved to Connecticut. I voted before 18, cause it felt like the right thing to do.

When I was 17 I moved in with my grandparents. I was working 54 hours a week and paid for just about everything I had at the time. (Clothes, car etc.)

Then when I was 20 I took a job transfer and basically moved to Florida on a whim.

Left when I was 17, returned for a few months to graduate high school, and took off for good when I was 18.

I packed up and left home about 3 months after turning 16 and havent been back, I'm 32 now. I was the typical teen that thought I knew what I needed to know to survive so me and my best gal decided to give it a go and well it wasnt always easy but were going on 16yrs and still making it work. It was rough no doubt but glad I did what I did and wouldnt change a thing. Course things are alot better now that we've matured and got good jobs but we had some great times scrapping by living hand to mouth.
