~ New RF.Net Team Suggestions ~

I'm sure many of the new admin/mods will have to lean on the few vets left (AJ), but let's make this thread an open forum for site tweaks moving forward. I'm sure some might not be possible, others may be blocked by the absentee landlord that inherited the board, but why not give it a shot.

Perhaps some good changes can come of it, much less some suggestions to liven it up.

But seriously, I think one of the things that has chased a lot of people away (not counting the show) would be the spammers. The board as a whole is doing better dealing with it, but it's still out of hand sometimes.

I'm not exactly sure what more can be done about it, though.

Can we finally get rid of all those useless, self promoting buddays forums and mods? How much longer do we need a whole sub forums for people who not only never posted here, but they also have mod control in any way? Some made sense at the time, but man are most defunct and barren to say the least.

I was going to mention the same thing, but I figured you were going to get to it sooner or later.

There may already be a way to do it but I'd like to see a way for the threads in whcih you've posted to let you know when they've been updated.

I knw there are icons that tell you there are new posts but I'm talking more about a grouping that puts them altogether.

Right now I go into the search function and enter my name and look for the topics I posted in recently.

Also, ever forum has a TON of stickies which completely kills the purpose. That's another clean up thing that can't hurt. I mean, a sticky for a Smail's goofy video? Pretty sure that's a weird use of the tool.

Well I can tell you this, I'm on a lot of medical/biology sites, hockey/sports forums and so others and NONE of them have these issues at all. The only other place I see anything like it is the messages sections of stories where they get hammered with ads for shoes and free mlb games. Yet even that seems to be gone of late.

So what I'm saying is there surely is a fix out there, as much bigger & smaller sites have controlled it easily.

If only Jon could create some sort of lego based moat to protect the site from spammers. Someone check foursquare and find out which basement he's at in White Plains stat!

if you go to user cp it shows new subscribed threads, which is all the threads you've posted in that have new posts.

i also like searching for your name, because that let's you know specifically if someone has quoted you or directly asked you a question somewhere.

edit: i checked and you have subscriptions turned off. would you like me to turn them on for you? (you can subscribe with no notification or get an email daily, weekly or even every time a thread you've posted in gets a reply).

edit 2: alternately, you can go to user cp and edit options and change your subscription status there.

just like a board not really catered to anything. Have all the sections like we do but i think the name ronfez.net drives away anyone who doesnt really care about the show

Im not here because of talk radio anyway so I like this idea! I think you are right we would probably see more people and a different variety. This board is pretty much about everything anyway. We talk about sports, entertainment, technology, women and everything else or already!

I think it's time mods, no new posters until they get approved by the mods. I'm sorry, this spam crap is unbearable and ruining the board. Why does it have to be so tough on the mods too? They come to post as well, not constantly put out fires. It would be much easier to just have a central bank of pending additions for new posters and have a fail safe question system to see if they are real.

Also, this would take away the bombardment of spam shit in the system when mods aren't around, which they can't always be I understand this. Admin time to fix this and be a true leader of a board for the posters and your staff Mods who are working harder than ever for little results. Busy work bullshit that just doesn't need to be happening.

I've been suggesting this for months. The only new "members" joining this board are spammers anyway. I think we owe it to those who have remained loyal to this place to keep it in better shape than what it has become.
