I am a little overwhelmed about reboots.
As I understand it, a reboot is about a series of films. a remake is about a single film.
That's the easiest way to look at it.
It gets confusing
The Punisher for example. They made it with Dolph Lundgren, Thomas Jane and Ray Stevenson but the last two seemed to be tied together.
anyway some of the obvious reboots are
Sherlock Holmes
Spiderman
Batman
Superman
but there are lots more so let's see if we can collect them all
It should be easy since Hollywood is reboot crazy.

I think a reboot also includes choosing a new theme or tone based on existing canonized material. Tim Burtons version of Alice in Wonderland is a reboot to me, so is the James Franco/Mila Kunis/Anne Hatheway Wizard of Oz project.

One more thing,
X-Men has gone through some attempts to grow and change but it doesn't seem to qualify for reboot status since they are making sure they retain some original actors like Hugh Jackman's cameo in First Class.

I still see those as remakes.

They're not apples, they're oranges.

Whatever is going on with the X-Men series is more retcon than reboot. They know they fucked up with both X3 and Wolverine and kinda threw them out when making First Class.
Also, doesn't Jackman hold the movie rights to Wolverine where nobody else can play him?

If Jackman remains involved then he cockblocks a reboot

For the next decade or so, sure, which is probably a good thing. When he gets too old or gets bored with the role he can sell or license it.

I thought "reboot" could also mean a do-over when the first attempt fails. Take The Hulk for instance. Ang Lee's version wasn't well received, so they called it a reboot when they trucked out the Ed Norton one a few years later.

Wait...then what the hell is a "reimagining"?

If this is a reboot, then what do you call it when you're walking through the mud, and the suction pulls off one of your galoshes, then you have to hop around on one foot until you put the other one back on???????

It doesn't really follow the storyline of how the original ape planet was formed, so it's still a reboot. But it's a reboot that starts at an earlier timeline.

They wanted to make it a movie but the studio shut it down. So they made a web series instead. Check out Mortal Kombat Legacy on YouTube, it's amazing.

this is the last of the original movies from 1973 and it sounds like the same basic timeline.

Conan...Renoot.

I am not sure I want to even accept the new Conan movie.
The original is still one of the best movies ever made. Any movie made with no dialogue from the star actor until about halfway through the film is epic.
I will probably give it a shot but only after its out of theatres. I don't want to encourage this reboot bullshit the last 10 years. Come up with some original stories you cash hungry jerkoffs in Hollywood.
Speaking of reboots/remakes/whatever... I actually watched The A-Team last night... I loved the tv show since I was a kid when it came out... I knew the movie probably had horrible reviews (didn't even care enough to follow it when it came out)... maybe because my expectations were so low I actually just enjoyed watching a dumb action movie with some funny actors (dude from District 9, Rampage Jackson haha, Liam, Bradley Cooper). Oh and did I mention Jessica Biel is nice to look at?

Ahhh... but it does! Tying in the original movie nicely with some key moments.

I was going to call you out on this, but I smartly went to rotten tomatoes before I shot my mouth off. The movie got a 74% positive rating. I don't necessarily judge movies based on rotten tomatoes, but I think I've got to give this one another look.
Just to be honest though, I think "one of the best movies ever made" might be a little optimistic. It's up against a lot of competition.

Yeah I was exaggerating a bit. Plus a lot of people see the crapfest that was Conan the Destroyer and equate the two.
But for a movie that has swords and appeals to the DnD crowd, I felt Conan the Barbarian did a decent job of maintaining a grittyness that could possible appeal to the joe six-pack crowd who think elves are gay.

The Avengers causes me so much confusion. It's not a reboot It's not a spin off, what is it?
and then we have yet another Hulk(WTF Mark Ruffalo)
and let's not even contemplate what happens if Captain America ever meets the the Human Torch. (God if there was ever a need for a reboot it it the Fantastic Four!!!!)

That's an obscure reference unless you're a fan of a little gem from 1980 called "Used Cars".
