All right boners, you owe a 5:
My top 5 Dead Milkmen songs
5. Surfin' Cow- you kindof have to hear it live to get why I picked it, I wasn't going to pick it favoring the similarly structures Wonderfully Colored Plastic War Toys, whose (scant) lyrics I like better. But I listened to this version and couldn't not pick it. You have to jump to 52:10 http://youtu.be/9DYa8pUuaFU
4. Stuart- A Rodney monologue song, I really love how unmelodic his ranting is and how perfectly it matches with the totally oblivious music. It's about alienation, it's a little funny, it's a little real, it's surfy, it's out of tune on purpose, it represents them so well. Name checks John Wurster, who is now the drummer in Superchunk and The Mountain Goats, back before he was anyone.
http://youtu.be/5Xuvcpjf1JU
3. I Hate You I Love You- A Joe song, a simple, jangly, petulant song, a song about chafing against the people around you. http://youtu.be/mkuZJQV4_PA
2. Dean's Dream- another Joe song, a really odd narative with a really nice progression. I like this band because so much of the music is about ideas through example rather than ideaology, impressionistically this song is about being young and odd http://youtu.be/qjtRL2Omz6w
1. Serrated Edge- Rodney singing about starting his own religion which worships Charles Nelson Riley. There's something so round and perfect about the bass, and how chinzy the drums sound on the album. You need to hear the album version to get it, but unfortunately I only can find live, skip to 2:25. Contains Laundromat song, which was an also ran for being really clever. http://youtu.be/-i9VO2yEheE

I had to make some tough decisions, the guitar in Punk Rock Girl is great but it just didn't make it.
The only thing you need to know is that I believe in swordfish.
I think the problem with Swordfish is that it's a free form song when it's live, so there's no definitive version. If I was going to pick a long, free form song it would probably be Instant Dance Club Hit

I used to be such a Fez apologist. During Dave stuff, I said Dave and Ron egged him on, and whatever.
Now, it just annoys the hell out of me because he doesn't WANT to get help for any of his problems. I honestly have no idea how Sirius Management being such the dicks they seem to be aren't trying to pull Fez's plug. Unless Ron somehow has them convinced Fez's problems are actually good radio.

To present the 'con' to The Wire I'm on the same boat, I know a million people that rave about it and never have seen it. I just dont have the energy to launch into a whole new series to watch from start to finish, if they reran it on HBO week to week I'd probably watch it, but grabbing the DVDs and grinding them out isn't appealing to me right now. And people so rave about it, are so into congratulating themselves for liking it, it makes it hard for me to be excited to see it, I feel like I can't possibly enjoy it as much as people act.

My Top 5 Favorite Video Games
5. Donkey Kong Country: Graphically, one of the best looking games ever to come out at the time and the first ever to use pre-rendered 3D graphics for a home console. Featured varied levels across an extensive single player campaign with barrel puzzles, boss battles, and banana collecting similar to the mario coins. Difficult and lots of fun.
4. Prince of Persia: Warrior Within: The sequel to Sands of Time threw out everything we knew about the prince and gave us a darker, more skilled warrior with new combat abilities, finishing moves, and a completely overhauled tone. Dual wielding weapons, terrifying chase scenes with the monstrous Dahaka, and some of the most intricate puzzles of the series this was one of my favorites on the original Xbox. Some of the best platforming mechanics ever in a game helped earn this game a top spot on my list.
3. Gear of War 2: Another sequel that made my list is the continuation of the Xbox 360's flagship series. This third person shooter has memorable characters Marcus and Dom continuing the fight against the Locust and the war has gotten closer than ever. The planet is crumbling and the only option is to lead an assault against the Locust on their home turf inside planet Serra. Some incredible set pieces, a truckload of new weapons, improved cover mechanic, the introduction of using fallen enemies as "meat shields", updated graphics and new vehicles throughout the campaign made this one of my favorite shooters ever.
2. Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee: In my opinion, the best overall and best looking game ever to release for the Playstation. You play Abe a Muddokon slave who overhears his slave driving bosses plan to use the Modokons as a new food source. Knowing his life and the lives of his ppl are on the line, Abe sets out to escape the factory and free his enslaved Modokon brothers. The game introduced a highly acclaimed ALIVE engine that gave us "gamespeak" and helped create more realistic enemy encounters as well as the ability to chant and possess enemies to solve puzzles, free other slaves, or whistle back passwords to other Mudokon Natives later in the game. Possessing an enemy Slig, killing another Slig guarding a door or lever, and then committing Slig suicide never got old. This game changed how I imagined the way games could look.
1. Bioshock: My number one favorite game of all time. A first person shooter set in an alternate 1960 timeline where the one time underwater utopia of the city of Rapture has fallen to ruins. You play as Jack, a plane crash survivor who must explore and now escape the underwater tomb inhabited by maniacal splicers, creepy Little Sisters, and the now iconic lumbering Big Daddies. There is so much going on in this game it would take another post to properly write it all out. 1st person shooter elements mix with RPG customization, survival horror game play, and stealth elements into something different from any other 1st person shooter I had played. Hacking safes, ammo vending machines, security cameras and flying machine gun bots introduces a mini-game segment much like the original Pipe-Mania game. The incredibly unique city of Rapture, its creepy inhabitants, nearly flawless game play and one of the best surprise endings in any game to date really put this one over the edge for me as my #1 favorite all time game.

I think he tried to parse things out, later, by saying that he was supportive of Jesco & fam', but the exploitation wasn't part of his understanding. They really did pin him to the production, marketing wise. Johnny Knoxville is another "local" who'd been behind the scenes, without the shine that was put on H3.

one real life example: Celia Cruz.
i went to a dinner party and people were going on and on about the Beatles. at that point, i really didnt know any of their songs and mentioned it. everyone was floored. I made a mention about Celia, who had just died and no one knew who i was talking about. this was a lady who was cranking out hits from the 1940's to even after she died in 2003 (she had an album released posthumously, regalo del alma); a lady who has been copied and sampled by many groups over and over again; a lady who had fans that spanned generations. She is HUGE in the hispanic community, but these white people at this dinner party had NO clue :o
