Because it's priced for the extreme rich, it shouldn't have to comply with the safety standards vehicles priced for the lower classes must conform to? Wow, you are a conservative.

Are you going to drive a kid in a 200+MPH Supercar or something like a crossover or SUV ?
Tom Cruise is going to drop off little Suri at preschool in that car.. come on now. Common fucking sense needs to be practiced. The passenger in a car like that is going to be a leggy woman in a short skirt
God damn you really like big gov't

They're dumb, you're only going to sell about 5 cars a year so why set up shop in America, just market them in America and sell the same amount. If you're going to spend a million on a car you can afford to ship it over from Europe, just like anyone that shipped a Veyron over here. Designate it as a track car, which is the only place you can drive it at speed anyway.
I would've guessed the angle was gonna be "Only 5 sold per year, why are we wasting money monitoring this."

So you want government to have the bandwidth to account for specific cases like "this car is not likely to be used for children" and I'M the one who wants big gov't?
I think you're right WF, if you have enough money you should be totally free of government regulation.

Thats not up to the government. Its common sense would you strap a toddler into a car like that ?
Why do you think that people cant make informed decisions?
Only a handful of these cars would have been sold here, its not like you would see them all over suburbia

If the government didn't regulate child safety airbags, and it was much more cost efficient not to include them, why would ANY car company include them? Why on earth do you have such trust in the good faith of corporations? What have they ever done that shows you they won't collude in order to eliminate the notion of "child safety airbag" from the market?

Who are going to be the clientele for these cars? Its going to be people like Derek Jeter Jay Leno and Seinfeld.
Its not going to be some middle manager with a house in the suburbs
Only a handful of these cars would be sold in the US
Youre talking about 0.000000016 % of the population who would have these cars

So you think 0.000000016% of the population should have to abide by a different set of regulations than the rest of society? Or should the government spend extra money/time refining laws to appease that portion of society? Or should the government funded police be able to make judgement calls on what types of cars should be allowed to have children in them?
The government is prejudiced against Italian cars. You fucking believe that? In this day
and age? What is this world coming to?

No across the board
Who in their right mind would have a kid in a car like that anyways? For arguments sake if you were a billionaire with a toddler would he be in that car or a Chevy Suburban?

Why do we even have to ask these questions? Why not just have a basic set of regulations that all car companies must conform to, regardless of the cost of the vehicle? That's what we have, and if you take your "government is stupid and evil" blinders off for one minute you'd see that the NHTSA's position is common sense.

I guess its who you know if you want a waiver and exemption.
Just ask all the companies who got one from Obamacare

This deserves to go in the LOTD thread.
You know Pagani isn't some guy in his barn, they're pretty much partnered with Mercedes.
Things are tough for all the mom and pop million dollar supercar importing companies out there.

Who would put a child in a 700 HP quasi racecar ?
Why do we need a 1 size fits all top down approach to everything ?

Unless you're planning a new law banning kids from these cars, you cannot assume kids would not be in them. Please be serious on occasion.

No one is going to put a kid in a car like that.
Besides that, its not a car you drive everyday
So just because you say no one will put a kid in the car that's enough to allow them to ignore what every other manufacturer has to go through? Even borderline turnkey racers like the 911 GT3 or Viper ACR abide by the rules. Being rich isn't an excuse to ignore what everyone else in the country has to comply with -- that's some serious commie shit you're espousing.

First of all, the waivers are being ended
Health Care Waiver Program Being Ended By Obama Administration (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2011/06/17/health-care-waiver-program-obama_n_879515.html)
Secondly the waivers were designed so that people who currently have health care wouldn't lose it.
The waivers were established to avoid disrupting existing coverage. In 2014, taxpayer-subsidized insurance will be available to most of the people now covered by the affected plans.

And it'll come down to judgement calls from some part of the government on what to allow, and what not to allow. If we took this approach to regulation, then the size of our government would be infinite.

If that were to happen it would only be for GM
Do you think Honda or Fords would sell if they sold cars without airbags. There would be acres of unsold cars.
People can make their own decisions most dont need the government telling them that a car with airbags is safer than ones without.

WF this is why you lose these arguments because you dont realize when it comes to shit like this people need protection from themselves. There has to be standards and if those standards arent met then too fucking bad. Especially with rich people because they think they are untouchable so sometimes you need to slap some reality into their face.
Its the same people over and over again that fight against govt until something happens to them or their family then they are the 1st one to line up trying to pass laws, fighting against congress to pass laws and going to the media with their story. Like the lady in the soc Food inc. She was a right winged conservative republican who sin died from eating a burger. she is now an advocate for new laws and more govt over site. Before she didnt give 2 shits but now that something happened directly to her and her family she cares. Well maybe if people cared before hand these things wont happen?!

Again How many cars would be sold here ? At the most 5. I do not think most people need protection from themselves.
So someone who has that car would let an alzheimers sufferer ride in the passengers seat? How about a quadrapalegic?
Anyone who would buy those cars would not put a baby or toddler in those cars.
People like that lady are the misery loves company types. Something happens to someone in her family and she wants draconian laws to affect everybody.
Thats how this fucking country is, one tragic event happens and everybody has to be dragged into it. Look at air travel as an example. Tragic events are going to happen theres a risk of getting up every day and leaving your house, thats how life is.
Everythings a slippery slope. One day someones going to have a massive head injury from a car accident and there will be laws that people will need to wear helmets when in a car. Its bound to happen
Hypothetically if a family member of mine had that injury, I would never lobby for some law requiring passengers in a car to wear a helmet.
How are rich people untouchable you always hear about celebrities, Athletes politicians etc getting busted for DWI.

Rich people think they are untouchable! I agree that every time something bad happens we dont need law changes but like this issue there are standards on the books about car safety. Cars cant be on our roads unless they meet these safety standards no matter how many are sold. As for that lady she now works with dems to get the food standards already on the books to be used. Thats the difference, shes not changing laws she wants our govt and the factories to go by the standards already on the books but because of money and not giving a shit these companies dont even follow fda standards!

It may be difficult to tell from the pictures, but this used to be a Ferrari F430 Spider. That was until its driver, baby on board, managed to total the car on the A58 highway in Holland.
Miraculously, both the driver and his child were spared their lives, despite bring thrown outside the car during the accident. We hope that when he goes to replace the Ferrari, this guy gets something a little more manageable with a back bench where he can properly strap down a child seat. Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, perhaps?
