I used to coach girls basketball. And the NY Liberty was always generous with helping me get tickets for my team through the years that it became an annual tradition of taking the team to watch a NY Liberty game. The best part was when they flashed the "Welcome St. Joe's Girls basketball team" on the board on top of center court.

Also the WNBA and college basketball are more system driven leagues as opposed to the NBA.

So you never donated your time for the greater good? If you told me I would come back to the grammar school I graduated from to coach basketball and track I would have told you that you were crazy. If adults don't volunteer their time for activities like youth sports, those same kids would probably be out in the streets doing other stuff. You have to start somewhere. That's my contribution to society. It nice to know that you make a difference in other people's lives when the kids and parents remember you.

I also work with Mentally ill people and addicts. But to each their own. You can't save/help everyone but if you can make a different in one person's life that's good enough for me.

This is a small grammar school and everything is volunteer. I had no intentions of coaching. My bro and his friend were the original coaches. When my bro went to New Zealand, our friend asked me to help him out coaching. little did I know he would be more in the background. I was originally going to volunteer to coach the biddy boys team but the girls didn't have a coach, so they made me the girls basketball coach. Every year we barely had enough kids to field a team. I don't coach basketball anymore because it's too time consuming. I stopped for awhile until my friend asked me to help him out coach the boys team. I helped him out for awhile but stopped because my coaching philosophy was different from his. The team was more concerned about scoring playground points against each other than working as a team.

I still coach track. Although I stopped for a couple of years when I worked father away and had no time to do it. It's not as time consuming as basketball and if rains there's no practice or track meet. They try to get me to coach basketball again but my basketball days are done.

A couple of my friends and some parents helped me coach the girls team through the years (we kinda had more coaches than players in the early years). The first 2 years was a friend who played high school girls basketball. Then my bro came back for awhile. Another friend who's daughter was on the original biddy team and also played H.S. girls basketball. Technically they couldn't coach the team by themselves or run the team as they didn't have the certification that I had when I first started coaching (I had to take this class at Rutgers then afterwards some CYO thing from the church). The only ones that had all the requirements was me, my bro and our other friend (who barely showed up). The requirements now aren't as rigorous.

i'm also certified in 1st aide and CPR.
