I'm up in Bristol and it is a shame that we don't have anything as far as food goes. I have business people coming in from Austin and have no where to take them. I'm going out to Austin next month and have requested to go to the Salt Lick for some BBQ

Salt Lick is good, the original location is in a dry county (you can bring your own beer in a cooler) and about 30 minutes south of Austin, on weekends its like hour wait in a line for seating.

Quick and dirty BBQ is Rudy's, they are connected to gas stations, which I find hilarious. Rudy's is probably the best "chain", a few others are good for sort of bland BBQ wise. Can't remember the names right now, haven't been there for over 4 years now.

I also recommend Chuy's mexican, even though they are a chain there, the jalapeno ranch dip sauce is freakin' insane and addictive. There are also awesome hole in the wall mexican places strewn about too, probably too many to list. You can probably get ideas from your contact and he might make fun of my Chuy's recommendation but no matter what some locals say, its pretty good.

Oh, I just remembed another mexican place, its mostly on UT campus and one north. Trudy's. They have the mother f'n best refried black beans (one of only places that lets you get your refried beans as black beans not regular...) and their stuffed avocado is insane. Breaded, fried, and stuffed with chicken.
