Boxing is the only sport you can get your brain shook, your money took and your name in the undertaker book.
Kill the body and the head will die.
So true.
RIP Smokin' Joe.

The shit that Ali did to him was fucked up.
I know he apologized later in life but still.

He pulled much the same shit against George Foreman before the Rumble in the Jungle, questioning his blackness, calling him an Uncle Tom, etc.
In a lot of ways, Ali went through the same spiritual journey that Malcolm X did, rejecting a lot of the Black Muslim rhetoric and embracing a more orthodox Islam, but he pulled some pretty racist shit before that.

they interviewed joe frazier last year during a knicks game on MSG and it was so fuckin sad. Its probably better that he is gone. if ali was a 1 on a 1-10, frazier was a fuckin -95. i think at one point they asked him about his fights with ali and he thanked the guy for being concerned about his daughter. it was so fucked up

So long Joe.. -They just don't make 'em like that any more...
This segues nicely into the recent Jude Angelini call from Floyd Mayweather.
Jude was in the Sirius Shade45 studio talking about Maywether "ducking fights" and Mayweather happened to be out and about "listening" to the show, so he called in and it was just awesome.
Floyd's biggest fuck-up: He had -NO- idea -who- he was talking to.
When Rude Jude goes in on your ass, you can't win.
It just doesn't happen. ;>
You may remember "Rude Jude" as the in-house 'make-over shit-talker' on Jenny Jones.
Here's the call: couldn't get it to embed.

Its a shame. The guys been friends with my dad for a long time. Any time I ever saw him he was one of the nicest, most respectful guys youd ever want to meet. When I was a teenager he wanted to train me to box, my father told him no way, and when he asked why my dad told him "Because I dont want him to sound like you when he talks when hes 45." LOL
Philly really needs to get a statue of him put up somewhere in the city.

And here I imagine you sound worse without the tender touch of boxing in your life!

I don't know why, but this is devastating. Maybe because its the end of the golden age of boxing. There was never a more gracious, yet ferocious boxer. Listening to him, you could tell he loved his life. Enormous spirit and determinaion. very sad.

Joe Frazier lived not too far from me as a kid, and although I knew he was a boxer, everytime I went by his house I could only think of when he ran over his foot with a lawnmower and lost a toe. It gave me images of a bloody toe in a cooler packed in ice.
