Dangerfield is an odd career because he really had two careers.....when he started he had a different approach. Eventually he took a ton of time off, but kept writing. During that time he developed the one liner "no respect" style of jokes that made him famous.

Definitely one of the funniest Fs around. Ever. But, whether he's a stand-up qualifier is a tough one. If you take out the trilogy (Animals, Fame, Politics), he's barely logged enough to match a month of Jimmy gigs. He's brilliant, in both the American and British definitions, but I didn't peg him as a standup candidate.
