The purpose of the nose, is to filter all manners of crap out of the air before it goes to our lungs. To accomplish this, the inside of the nose is lined with tiny hairs. These hairs catch dust particles, dander, etc. The stuff that is caught eventually accumulates and forms the much maligned booger.

If you find yourself doing a lot of mining for precious mineral resources you may have a hypersensativity to small particles trapped in your nose that are not yet big enough to band with other particles and form a booger.
