I too have been pondering this question.
But there are three solutions to this question.
If you believe in Creationism, then the chicken came first since God created everything as adults.

If you believe in evolution, then the egg came first since the first chicken was a mutant formed from an egg from another species.

If you believe that God's plan is through evolution, then I would say that it would be the egg too.

EFMEBOOBS - Whether you're an evolutionist or a Creationst, the answer is the same. The chicken. Organsims cannot be produced as a reproductive byproduct before there is a species to reproduce.

Not to nit picks, but the egg came first, as eggs existed long before chickens.

BUT, if we're talking specifically chicken eggs, it comes down to how you look at it. The first chicken, as we know it today, was created through a random genetic mutation, spawned from the egg of a (not entirely, mind you) different bird. So, since that egg contained a chicken, did the chicken egg come first? Or since that egg was produced by another bird, was it just that birds' egg, which happened to contain a chicken?

Perhaps I should actually work when I'm at work, but I like this better.

Well thanks for your insight Horde King. I am more confused than I was before, but if I had to choose what to believe, I'm going to go with Horde's statement. I mean he is the supreme being for one, and I can believe more that the chicken came first since I do believe in God and evolution. Thanks ;-)
